Im trying to make a guide to what will and what will not fit in the doors of a standard MK4 ibiza.
main problem is if there too much of a mounting depth the window will not go right down.

So
Can you list make and model number of what speakers you have fitted to your ibiza mk4 and also what size spacer you used also the speakers mounting depth and total height if you know them.

Thank you.
Geoff.

Infinity 605cse into the doors of the OLD Ibiza (note to potential theives - take the door cards off this Ibiza and be prepared to cry...you won't want the standard speakers! :p), mounted on 18MM thick MDF. The supplied tweeters fitted perfectly with some glue. The crossovers were mounted to the outside of the door card so I didn't see if there was enough room to fit them to the inside.

The rears had Infinity 652i's or something like that fitted onto a custom sheet of MDF, mounted where the standard speakers were. No modifications for thickness needed.

I'm sure Rage on here has had PG components fitted but can't remember what off hand, if he doesn't reply I'll let you know later ;)

Out of interest, do you guys reckon a set of 6x9's would fit where the back ones are? Not even looked so it might be a ridiculous question :p

Most probably, there is a hell of a lot of room behind there!

The problem will be getting the sound out, as there is only a 6" round hole or something like that. It'll probably sound a bit distorted. My Infinities did when I didn't mount them up right.

I was thinking some 8" subs in there.

Mmmm gonna have to have a good look and think. The next mods to my car will be some decent speakers and i'm not sure what to do in the back at the moment. Saying that, i'll be doing it in 2 stages most likely - fronts first then rears.

Despite everyone saying how nasty 6x9s are, I would probably prefer to buy 6x9s than have a sub in the boot. Also my music doesn't require a lot of bass, so I'm currently not seeing the point in having the Sub and Amp idea.

We'll see if I change my mind...

I'm not massively into ICE so i'm not too bothered about spending a fortune on amps or subs either. I just want a nice sounding system thats not too expensive. A lot of people i know have 6x9s in their cars and they sound great. I don't really want to go down the 'custom parcel shelf route' as it then looks like you might have a big system to the passing scroatbag. Might see what i can do in the back and whether there is someway of fitting 6x9s and keep it looking standard. Those and some nice components in the front and i'll be very happy. Oh and probably some Dynamat and foam to stop all the resulting rattles :p

PG tantrum 6.5 with he thinks 21mm MDF spacer with a 3mm extra bit of ply.

Now all i have to do is see if i can find the specs for the older tantrums as i bet the tantrum x are different.

I changed my head unit for a Sony one that I had lying around (that cost ~£130 a few years ago). No change in sound quality (compared with orginal HU).

Bought some Focal Polyglass v2 secondhand for £120, big improvement in sound quality - but after a 3hr journey in the car you couldn't touch the back of the HU (I guess it was struggling to power the speakers).

Bought a 4 channel Kenwood amp off ebay for £140 which allowed me to use an old sub that I had.

The nice thing is that if 8" subs do fit in the rear then it will look totally standard.
Anybody taken a look in the sides at the rear???

The rears have lots of room.

I'm looking to try 6x9s in there in the next few weeks, I'll get some pics with the panels off.

I'll do my best, but it's quite self explanatory :)

I beleive Baillies thread was along the lines of what can be fitted in the front doors, not what HU or rear speakers peeps have fitted.

True but he could edit the first post to include any definitive specs - which would be quite a useful list to people looking to change their speakers.
