Only fualts Ive had with the familys one is that the alternator belt tensioner is a weak point which was changed under recall and the replacement failed. pretty expensive part too  :-o

Other than for my money, I'd stay away from the petrol version, It can drink very nicely the TDI version be it a 90 BHP or 110 is a good runner....
To be honest I wish I'd kept my old stlye Bammer when I collected my new shape one.. & Been a 2 Bammer family!!!! The old blue Tdi R reg that I had was economical; Dame good caravan puller.. (Torque) Loaded up (Bikes on rear) roof box on, all 5 of us, plus holiday gear for 2 weeks, sat on the euro motorways doing 90mph without any hassel, and gave me 40mpg ! Impressed, I was.... The new PD Bammer is still being broken in.... But I get 38 with this one, doing simular drives....

Im glad you mentioned that Stu, I've done about 700 miles in mine now from new and I'm getting around 600 miles a tank (says around 38mpg on the Trip Comp). I thought this was poor - I hope it gets better! I've not been pushing the engine at all really, but recently I tried reving a little higher - up to 3 or so in each gear and the economy started to go up a bit! Maybe you need to belt them a bit?

Lovely car though :) BTW Whats SCSNN or whatever the acronym was??

if your going to get an auto then dont as g/boxes are a weak spot on these the manuals are o.k. as long as the selector bolt dosnt snpp off, this normally drops down to the differential and blows a nice big hole out the back of the gear box casing.
check that all the electrics work properl especially the centarl locking and elec windows thes are quite a soor point as they are made by ford.
other faults are: air flow meter/boost valve(n75)/boot handles/ecus/radiators on bottom lh corner/ seat mechansims to fold the seats.
