View Full Version : Insurance
Anyone know of any decent insurance companies that don't charge the earth for 20vT Ibizas? I begrudge paying too much. Pay £850 at the moment with Sterling, and am considering chipping but haven't asked how much yet. I've heard some companies load premiums up to 50% for chipped cars.
Any info much appreciated.
:)
Best thing is to give us a clue as to how old you are, how many years no claims bonus you have and where roughly you live. Insurance really does depend on a lot of things. I have found elephant to be cheaper than most for cupras. It really does depend on your circumstances and the modifications done to your car. As far as chipping goes, I believe insurance companies base it on the percentage increase in performance i.e. 0 - 10 %, 10 - 25% and 25%+ but again all depends. Best thing is to ring round as much as possible and see what each companies quote is.

Will be 26 by time of renewal, and I'm pretty sure I've got 5 years no claims. Live in Walsall West Midlands. Haven't bothered with any extra security on the car, except for a disk-lok.

With Sterling at the moment. Had insurance with Tesco on my last car (Mk3 Golf GTi), and had to make a non-fault claim. They were a pain in the arse. I'd only had the car 6 weeks and I lost £1000 with what they paid out. Wouldn't give a courtesy car either, had to get it from the bloke's company who hit me. A lot of internet based companies don't give courtesy cars and other little perks that prove useful in a claim.

Have you tried Adrian Flux?
Just changed my policy to them because of chip. Now pay £730 with ALL mods declared. I was a bit naughty before regarding suspension and strut brace. I'm 26 as well.

Adrian Flux is the broker for my insurance company. Maybe they'll give me a good renewal quote. Who chipped your car, and what to? Has it made a massive difference to anything?

I pick up my Cupra TDI next week and have been trying to get quotes this week. Try unsing confused.com they gave me a whole range. The cheapest for me was £720 and the most expensive £1570.
The best thing is that you just have to input you details once and then you come back an hour or so later and the have checked with around 30 companies.

Its REVO'd , so around 200bhp (ish). www.revotechnik.com/uk/ukrevo.html
Does it make a massive difference...erm YES! Like a new car.
I did suspension before I even thought about chipping otherwise it'll really highlight the crap standard setup.(and you'll probably end up in a ditch). :-o
If your modded then www.confused.com can't really do much for you as alot of Insurance company websites still don't allow for mods, although if you phone them they do.

I have though about the suspension cause the body roll is terrible especially on corners with crap camber. Fitted a Momo strut brace shortly after having it cause it was a cheap mod. I was really disappointed with the difference though. When I put one on my old Nova, it felt like a go-kart at the front end.
On the Ibiza I was going to uprate the front anti-roll bar, and all the relevant bushes to poly. On the back I was going to put 20 mm wheel spacers on. What do you think? Or are dampers & springs a better option? If you don't mind me asking, what did the Seat Sports Suspension set you back? Is it as good as other brands?

I've got strut brace, +15mm spacers and full suspension. To be honest I was just going to do strut brace and spacers but the suspension came up at a good price.
The suspension from a dealer is a ridiculous price. Bill Brockbank (ibizacupra) used to get them in for £350 i think. I got mine of someone who got the kit from Bill but never fitted it. Still boxed and un-opened when I picked it up.
Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs so its a good kit. Not 'wide-boy' low or anything. Just what it should have been straight from the factory. There's a review/guide on the main site - I agree with everything stated on that.
Can't comment of other brands, H+R and Bilstein do fully adjustable kits.
Depends on your wallet and what you're after.

The suspension sounds good. If Mr. Brockbank can still get the kits I may well invest when my wallet looks a bit fatter (could be a while, went and bought a bloody house!) I'll get some spacers first I think.
Cheers mate!

While I think about it too, your Scorpion exhaust, is it loud or just nice, and what sort of tailpipe finishes do they so. My rear box needs changing and the nicest one I've found is a Supersprint on with an oval tailpipe. Expensive though considering it's still mild steel.
Ta.

General opinion is that its the loudest out of the usual supsects.
(Jetex,Miltek,Supersprint)
I think its OK, in fact I think it sounds the nicest. If you do a lot of motorway driving then maybe its too loud.
Tailpipes are twin 3" slash cut and 4" single. Not sure if there's any more.
Do a search and you'll find some pics.

Thanks for the pic. I do over 50 mile per day on the motorway so might do my head in if too loud. I've had a supersprint box before on a golf gti, it was the factory spec not the racing one. They're nice, just a lot of money I think. A mate of mine had a cat-back Scorpion system fitted to a Rover Tomcat Turbo and it was the nicest exhaust I've seen. Very fast car too. He's just sold that though and bought a Saab Viggen 2.3 Turbo.
I shall have a think.
Cheers again.
