Mud Flaps

Got some mud flaps fopr my leon (front and rear). In the guide for the front flaps it suggests just using the screws to fit it in place, and not attach it to the body work as it can get ripped off.

Is this the best way to attach them, and under what circumstances would it get ripped off? Will they get loose over time, if I just use the screws?

Fitted them to both of my Leon's following the given instructions and haven't had any problems. They usually get ripped off when they get trapped between the tyre and kerbs when reversing up a kerb to park... If you are sensible and careful IMO they'll never get ripped off... ;)
