View Full Version : 007P cleaning
I have a Forge 007P dump valve in my Leon at the moment, I am thinking ahead to when it will need a little clean as Forge suggests. Not being a mechanically talented person, is it as straight forward as taking off the engine cover, undoing jubilee clips, pulling the valve out, cleaning and doing the reverse??
Encouragement is needed!! Thanks.

How long/how many miles has it been in there?
From my experience its never been that easy.
I've never actually managed to get the thing out myself, i had to get a mechanic to fit it. When i did the service on it i simply took the top hose off and unscrewed the top, pulled out al the components cleaned them and greased them and put them back in.
However i'd much prefer it if someone could give me and hints as to how to remove the DV.
I find that i can never get the thing to slip of the hoses at all. Are there any tools that you can use to help in this?

You must be a bit cack handed! - it's not the ideal location, but the pipes slip on easy enough when I've changed them.

 I will show you what to do at the RR day if you like.
Or if I'm a bit busy, pretty sure that Saul "hoof hands" Porter will show you whats required.

I'm generally good at doing things with my hands, i think i'm just a little bit scared of pulling hard on the it in case i break something. That bunch of small tubes next to the DV really worry me as they both get in the way of a screw driver and are in the way of pulling the DV out.
I just can't get the leverage or grip i feel i need to pull the thing out.
Do you find it easier the pull the hoses off when they are warm or stone cold as when they are warm they are softer.
To be fair there are a whole bunch of dainty looking pipes on the R compared to the Cupra.

Ant thoughts??

warm- it will certainly come off easier but you may not have any flesh left on your fingers as a metal dv gets bloody hot due to the turbo:bleh:
I do mine usually when its stone cold

When would I need to look at it?

My personal opinion (not Forges) is leave it until it has a problem, then clean it and away you go again. Forge do service kits, including o-rings etc if you needed to.
Don't take this the wrong way, but unless you know what you're doing, have the right kit around you to do the job, you run a higher risk of makings worse.
The DV for me is an item, if its not broken, don't fix it.
I have cleaned mine whilst having the engine parts to pieces a few times, but I have the tools and kit to do so.
If in doubt... don't.
all IMHO of course.
I think that is fair comment, it has crossed my mind to not touch it at all. But then there is the other voice in me to take note of what the manufacturer says!
I am not one to mess with car components by nature. What kind of signs will indicate that the valve needs a clean? Loss of power?
Thanks.

Hesitation, if the DV needs servicing then it will stick or not move as fast preventing it from closing and opening properly. Turbo takes longer to spool up and you might get some wastgate flutter.

As said... tell tale signs would be increased lag (sticking or slow to move piston) and if not working at all, a wastegate fluttering... (like most 20VT Leons' I've heard lately with OE DV's... dead ones and customers don't know)

I took mine apart last night to clean it, thought it best since I've had it for a good 25k miles without a clean. Full of dirty oil it was. Took it apart, cleaned all the crud out and used some silicon grease round it.
I was quite shocked at how dirty it was inside.

25K  No worries then!! I may have sold the car by then...

I do like the if its not broken dont fix it way , but we usually check the valves out every 10 - 12k , heres a useful link http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/valve_service.pdf
