Did any of you guys do this conversion yet, with the dremmel work?

Not yet, I only picked the Exeo up yesterday . I have debaged it, fitted mud flaps, fitted LED sidelights, ordered LED DRL's and given it a wash this morning.........

What LEDs did you get... any pics of them lit up?

No pics, sorry. They were the canbus friendly ones from my old MK2 Leon. Like a little flat circuit board with 4 Led's soldered on.

The ones that work are out of stock >>>>>>http://www.car-mod-shop.co.uk/Canbus%20white%2027%20SMD%20LED%20BA15s%201156%20382%20bulbs but I read that you can still get them from the USA

What ones did you buy that didn't work? Do you have a Link? I'm thinking of giving these a go >>>>>>http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Can-Bus-White-LED-Stop-Tail-Light-Bulb-1156-BA15S-P21W-/320704355615?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aab781d1f

Long nosed pliers did the trick for me after I removed the air intake pipe (2 screws)

On the left side there are two connectors placed behind the headlight. Removing one or both connectors might give you some extra space behind the headlight.

For the right side you've to remove the air-intake.

There's no need to remove the headlight units (they're secured with 3 torx screws size 30).
The only thing you need is patience, and some good weather.

Don't pull any wires inside the headlight units!

The sidelights are easy.
First switch on the sidelights so you can locate them in the headlight units. Once located switched of the sidelights before you continue.
They're mounted on a long black socket. At the end of the socket is a flat piece of plastic that you can reach with you're fingers. Twist it and pull out the socket.
Before you insert the socket test if the sidelight is working. If not rotate the LED bulb and test again.

The end of the sockets for the indicator lights look like a T at the end. Best is to use fingers from both hands to twist this socket. When the socket is loose you can pull it out.
Placing the indicator sockets back in is a hard job because it's not easy to get the sockets well aligned. You can use pliers, but I preferred to use my hands (fingers) so I had a better feeling of what I was doing.

Lamps I've used:

You might need to add a resistor parallel to those LED bulbs anyway as the site suggests.

I will see if I can get a pic when it stops raining.
They are not that bright, I am still deciding if I want to mess about with additional resistors for LED DRLs

No but someone in the MK2 Leon section did. May be worth a go but my email is down today. Feel free to email them and let us know. It's a PITA because they deffo work 100% on the MK2 Leon so should be good for us too.

I have just bought these clicky (http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/3821156ba15s-anti-canbus-white-bulbs-p-2346.html) They look exactly the same as the carmodshop ones that deffo work and they are from Ultraleds so I should be OK for a refund if they don't.

This thread has gone a bit off topic, the thread title could do with changing.

Actually I think they look OK. They look subtle not like some of the cars you see now with strips of LED's in strange shapes.

If the ones I have ordered don't work I will probably get some of those.

They didn't work even though they look exactly the same as the ones from themodshop that work in the MK2 Leon and are out of stock. I'm sending them back. The search continues...........

Interesting info............I fitted 10w bulbs with the same fitting as the correct 21w bulbs and I also got a bulb failure message so the Exeo is really quite picky about it's bulbs.

Don't think so. I think there's not enough current going through the 10W bulb (appr. 0.8A), so it's detected as an broken bulb.
The amount of current going through the 21W bulb is appr. 1.75A. So twice as much.

Nath.
14-06-2011, 18:01
^^^^^^good old ohm's law ;). I wasn't sure if it would actually require the full current draw of a 21w bulb to stop triggering the warning but it obviously does. I was thinkingf of solderingf a 5w or maybe a 10w bulb in line to fool the ECU the same as a resistor but a 21w bulb each side under the engine bay would be a bit silly.

I think that you can turn off the bulb check feature for individual sets of bulbs (well you could on the MK2 Leon) with VCDS so I'm going to loot into doing this after my holiday next week.

Nath,

I sent you a PM but I assume you never got it.
I see these are now back in stock. Have you re-ordered and tested them in the Exeo, or have you found a decent alternative for your DRL's?

Cheers
Dale

Any idea what kind of light these are going to give off??

Well, Halogen bulbs are normally whiter than incandescent bulbs. IIRC this is because the halogen gas allows the filament to glow hotter.

Sorry to bring this back up, but now unsure what bulbs to order...

Has anyone ordered or fitted DRL replacement bulbs yet? If so what ones from where and are you happy with the results (no errors, happy with brightness etc...)

Many thanks guys.

Sadly they dont work on the Exeo, we have not found any that do yet without modifications.
