View Full Version : Oil for remapped LCR
Oilman
Which would you recommend for a stg 2 remapped LCR running 280bhp out of -
Mobil1 0-40w or 5-40w??
Noticed the 5-40 is cheaper. The previous owner has ran the car on 0-40w since virtually new (covered 60k).
Just wondering should I keep it on 0-40 or will 5-40 do the job just as well?
Many thanks
Rich
You can use either 0w-40 or 5w-40, it will be happy on either. Mobil is expensive, what 5w-40's are you looking at?

I was just looking at mobil1 to be honest just because of its reputation - is it, or was it, not used in F1 cars? I've just ordered a 1ltr bottle from you for a top up.
Is there equals out there that are cheaper? I like the idea of 0-40 but if 5-40 is just as good but cheaper, i will start using that.
Also I'm doing a tackday in august, i'm sure mobil1 is good enough for that but do you recommend dropping the oil following a thrashing?
Any advice will be welcome...
Rich
The Mobil is an expensive brand, they may well make the oils for F1 but they are not off the shelf Mobil products.
0w-40 and 5w-40 are just viscosities, they dont really hold any clues as to how good the oil is, so there are many 5w-40 oils that are better then the Mobil 1, and many more that are worse.

Oilman what oil would you choose for a remapped LCR?
I would probably go for a good 5w-40 synthetic as there is loads of good choices. I use the Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 in my Cupra.
