Ok im sick of being on the loosing end of daft races by cars in the same bracket as mine! (i have a 16v cupra sport by the way!!)
My gear box is not the best at the mo BUT will be hopefully fully rebuit or whateva it needs in the nxt few wks - this isnt helping by the way!!! :(
Ive got a full stanless exhaust system + induction kit so what the nxt best mod to get for extra power? Im hopeing for a re-map to end the modding, hopefully making the car run that but smoother + hopefully quicker 2! :D but ive heard that its best to wait till all mods are on the car so that they can be accounted for when remapping the ECU! (ECU - is this correct by the way?))
So then boys please help me as ive currently got an ongoing battle with my boss at work - Honda Accord 2.0l 16v I and i want to literally smoke him!!!
Ok i know that these cars arnt the quickest but a 2.0l 16v in a small car - there must be a way of getting more power out of it!!!
Cheers

You probably won't like me for saying this, but when I had my 16v, it also had 17's and an induction kit. When I junked these, the car was quite a bit quicker! The induction kit just sucked in hot air and lost performance and mpg, the 17's are heavier than 16's and make the car bog down, especially at low revs.

How are you driving it? Keep it above 5000 rpm to get the best of it!:)

Most sites ive seen quote the accord 2.0 16v as 9.4 seconds for 0-60mph. The MkII GTi16v is quoted as 7.9, so i really dont see why your loosing so much!

Personally id think that an aftermarket chip, such as power chip, would be much better than simply remapping the standard chip. Aftarmarket chips allow lots of nify functions, can be reset to factory tune and all in all provide much more power, for not a huge difference in price than a remap.

I dont know how hard tuned the ABF is from stock, but i imagine its harder than most engines so a power chip might not provide as much power as you would like. Im guessing 5-15kw though.

A member of this forum, i think his name is H8SV8S, has done alot of work to his MkII GTi16v, including custom throttle bodies, and has increased his power output to 139kw, (I assume at the fly). On another forum he mentioned that the throttle bodies was where the power was at, so i imagine geting these made in adition to some custom extractors then a powerchip would be your best bet. The ABF cams are pretty agressive as they are so they arent worth replacing, and i cant see huge gains with engine internal work for the price either.

Heres what i'd do in order:

1) Exhaust (cat back and/or inc. highflow cat)
2) Intake (Oiled POD with adequate cold air acess and heat shielding)
3) Chip (make sure this is done last if other mods are in the imediate pipeline)
4) Throttle bodes/Extractors
5) Internal work (if it really comes down to it)

I'd bet that there are no off the shelf extractors or throttle bodies for the ABF engine so they would have to be custom made. you should probably speak to a specialist engeneer for these, H8SV8S Lives in Australia so no luck geting a contact of him unfortunatley.

Personally, i think its better off saving the money for suspension and handling improvments, as the MkII cupra will never really be a 1/4 mile rocket so its better to expand on what potential it already has. A chip would certainly be worth while, if it provided adequate power gains, but i suppose we dont really know what those gains would be. Good luck though!

ive been thinking about changing the wheels back to the original ones for some time now!!! however they dont look nowhere near as good as the 17's ive got on it at the mo so im getting them sprayed white to comprimise this!! :)
The prob ive got with racing other cars (i dont do this often by the way!!!) is that i carnt use my lower gears - carnt boot it in first as going into 2nd goes CRRRRUNCHHH!!!! ouch!!! + when hitting roundabouts carnt really slam it into 2nd or CRRRUNNCCCH!!! again!! this keeps me off the power band which is way high on these cars and to be honest if not in this (4000 + revs!) its not that quick at all!! Therefore its prob my gear box / clutch thats making me loose to these bloody muppets!
did you get ur old 16v re-mapped etc.? if so any good?

improve the handling and brakes first

i used to love seeing drivers speed off only to zip inside em under braking and whip away gain

- old logo in me back window -

YOU got power but I GOT BALLS :p

wasn't many mk2 escorts in them days around that could wind up a std cossie on the short n twisty ;) "hello mate - yep i'm still ere behind ya" :roflmao:

as the great Pirelli once said "power is NOTHING without control"
