View Full Version : Front Bumper - the plastic strip on the bottom
Ive got a mk2 gti cupra sport.
ive noticed that on the front bumper, the plastic strip at the bottom has several horizontal gaps.
on mine, only the the 'gap' on the passenger's side has actually been cut out.
is it right? this doesnt make munch sense as the air filter etc. is on the drivers side of the engine bay... ie the other side...
see pic for bumper view
is this the same for other people's cars?

I've fitted one of the Gti splitters on the front of my 1.4S, and it's got the same gap on the passengers side. I'm lead to beleive that it was originally for the Mk2 TDi's, which had their cold air intake taken from this point.
any other 1998 gti cupra sport owners out there that have the same front bumper anomoly?
My 1998 TDI has the spoiler as standard, the cut-out is for the intercooler, which sits on the pasenger side.
As far as I can tell this is the only design.
You could cut out the blanks and put some ducting down there to the airbox.

Yes, i also have a MkII Cupra Sport GTi16v and is has identical cut out gaps in the front bumper.
Don't know what its for, a TDi cooler sounds right though. On the bright side, it makes a very convinient place to fit some piping for cold air feed if you plan to fit a POD filter.
yep, cut-out is for tdi cooling. Of course you could always get your stanley knife out and cut the rest of them out to match, I did on my last one :)
yeh i have done it to mine just take a look at the pic
