Anyone know the engine code of mk3 Beezer Cupra 20vt 1.8?
I'm trying to get quotes for a new starter motor after my local seat dealer told me my none starting problem can be rectified with £260 worth of a new one! my local garage tell me they might be able to get one if they knew the engine code.

Dare I suggest that you check the engine number on your V5 vehicle registration document? The letters at the begining of the engine number gives you the engine code.
I suspect no-one on here could give you a definitive answer from the info you give - there are at least a couple of different variants of the 20vT used in UK spec mk3 Ibiza Cupra's alone. And that's before you get to the 180bhp variant used in the Ibiza Cupra R or any of the other versions used across the VAG range...
Ibiza Cupra 20VT
Model Year 2000 = AQX (156Bhp)
Model Year 2001 = AYP (156Bhp & 180Bhp)

Apologies if previous reply appeared patronising but you'd be surprised how many folks aren't aware of things like this. I'm all for sharing information but having a look and checking for yourself is guaranteed to give the right answer. When there's a couple of options (or more), how do you know which one yours is unless you go look? And tbh it's rare that anyone needs to know a nugget of info so desperately that it can't possibly wait until they get home.
Assuming you have the car with you, you could also either...
a) Lift the boot carpet and check the build sticker there.
b) Check the engine number on the VIN plate.
c) If you have your service book with you, you could even check the build sticker on the inside front cover.
You'll note that none of these options should involve getting hands dirty...
Well, you're partially right, because there are a plenty of 1.8T engnie codes, especially for Golfs and Leons, but "luckily" the ibiza just got two engines. The 156 and 180 AYP has got a different software only, everything else (in the engine) is the same.
