Has anyone else noticed that, although the Mk4 TDI Sports look high off the ground, the ground clearance isn't actually very high ?

The other morning there was a small piece of wood in the road, that I'm sure most cars would have passed over untouched, but it got clobbered by my engine tray.

Then today I came across a small rock (could only have been 2-3" high) and decided it was easily small enough to drive over, then BANG I clobbered it really hard and it smashed to pieces.

I had a quick look under the front bumper and the engine tray still looks intact, but I was really surprised how low it hangs - given that most people think the Mk4 looks like it's on stilts !

I ran over a rabbit once, I only slightly felt it compared to my old Polo where it really thumped the bottom of the car!

I'll show you a new meaning of ground clearance on Saturday...watch the forums!

It was interesting yesterday @ donington, I parked beside one of the Ibiza 2.0 Sports they had there (company car for the drivers or something), and expected my car to be slightly lower than it, as I've the SeatSport suspension kit on my car..and whilst I didn't use any scientific methods to check, my car didn't look any lower than it. I'd expected a 10-15mm drop or so.

It doesn't bother me - I fitted the suspension to sort out the handling, and that it certainly has.

I think it's that way on all TDI's

Mine was partly to sort out the handling, but also to sort out the looks as I've always wanted to have a car that could look good for shows and have the ability to get pics in magazines
