Well, I finally got round to doing my leaking doors, I thought a decent morning would have all four done. I was totally wrong, it took me two hours to get the drivers door panel off! The reason was the muppet previous owners, they had used silicon sealant to try and fix the problem. I spent most of my time cutting the sealant off, and by the time I'd got the bottom of the panel loose it was obvious that I wasn't going to be cleaning it off by just pulling the panel out a bit. So the whole thing had to come off.
This is the panel when I finally got it off;

And the door;

you can just about see in the last image that this repair had actually been done twice, once with some horrible black stuff and the second with some horrible clear stuff. What I could see is that after two lots of sealant, there was still a huge gap where water was going to be escaping.
The next half an hour was spent with a stanley knife and a screwdriver trying to get it cleaned off. Eventually though I got it down to a decent level, and got the bitumen stuff on;

I put an extra layer around the screws, just in case. Of course, today is bright sunshine so I have no idea whether the new sealant is doing it's job.
Edit: OK, it looks like the IMG tags are blocked due to where I'm posting, but you can probably guess what to do with the links.
