View Full Version : Knackered wheel bolt thread
What can I do to sort this? Any sort of place I can get the thread redrilled?
One of them cross threaded when changing the wheels over earlier and has left the bolt knackered and only lets you partially screw in another bolt.
I'm not liking the fact one of my rear wheels has 4 bolts in it, no matter how safe it probably is. Some help ASAP on this would be smashing!
Ta...
rear one? just buy a new disc (or take off the old one and thread it thru from teh back?)
M
Yeah its the rear one.
I'm sure I can live with it until tomorrow so I'll show you tomorrow.
Wouldn't it screw into the hub rather than the disc?
I'm gonna research it at home now or see if Hellfrauds to a thread thingy.
no hub as such on the back - just disc...
yer, not sure on the mk4, but mk3&2 use a stub axle which the disc (which contains your wheel bearings) mounts onto, the discs itself is threaded to house your bolts.
Just as m0rk said :D
Take it to a tyre place they will probably have taps and dies and stuff.
The place I now use for tyres rethreaded mine for me after another tyre place had cross threaded it.
didn't even charge me, but I was getting new tyres at the time, I guess they might charge you a fiver or just give one of the guys some beer money for doing it.
Thanks guys!
To save my total paranoia I just shoved the bolt in and did it up tight using a lot of force.
I'm gonna try and find somewhere that can do it and see what they say.
Hellfrauds only went up to M6 tap & die sets whereas the motor factors went up to M12...I need M14!
Problem solved for now :)

Well the MK3 Cupra Ibiza has a bearing hub assembly, and the disk is loose (undrilled) - Tapped hole resides in the bearing housing.
Ibiza Mk3 is not like Mk2 (which was like Golf II/III)
