Hi, I have had to put about half a litre of oil in my new FR. It had done about 800 miles before I checked it. The dealer actually told me there was an electronic check but I am sure you have to check the level the old fashioned way and use the dipstick. Anyway, £16 for a litre of Castrol from halfords and It's took half to get it to the correct level on the dipstick. Does / should it use oil - or was it just short filled from the off?
Thanks
The tsi engine does use a bit of oil apparently. many members here with that issue.

Mine Cupra has run now 1800 km and no drop of oil ;)
Where is your engine built?
My first engine was built in China (the car is 4/2010) while the second one in germany.
The first one on average was consuming 200-300ml per 1000km while the second one has not consumed anything (like no drop to the mm on the stick and the level reported in vagcom) in 3000km.
I dont want to sound racist in any way but i think that the Chinese plant should have had an issue. All 2011 cars that i know are now using German built engines.
You could find out by looking at the Drivers side (in the uk) , codrivers elsewhere side of the engine block. It has embrodied the place were it is built. It would be nice to know if my assumption has any merit.
mmmm will have a look at mine.

I think its just the engine that was built in Germany. I though the car was assembled over in sunny Spain.
My 2011 FR also has a German block........good news I guess.

Well another half a litre gone in :(
I'm gonna be having to get the 4 litre size of Castrol Edge at this rate, a litre every couple of thousand miles at the moment.

My Boc drinks heavier than a ****head on Hastings seafront ! Got a mate with a motorcycle workshop and he reckons all the modern bike engines that use fully synthetic oil are the same, maybe its a characteristic of the oil as im sure the Tsi is not the only modern car engine to consume oil like this ??

I've used .75L so far over 2600 miles, which is better than what the manual states as normal consumption.
Been checking every week and to see the consumption rate and seems to be very stable when driving normally, but when I drop the hammer, the level drops rapidly.
Guess the saying is true, "slow and steady saves you buying more oil."

TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER ASAP!!! I am a newbie so cant post my own threads, but your storey makes me worry...
I have a 60 plate FR 1.4TSi DSG which I purchased from my local SEAT dealer just over a month ago with 4k on the clock. 2 weeks ago, the oil light came on, but after putting in a bit, testing the dip (NOT A DROP!) and putting more in.... and repeat.. 2 litres later and still nothing on the dip and I got a bit worried!
Booked car into the dealer, they tested, took oil out, weighed it, put it back in.... and added another 60 miles to my clock... Then they left me a voicemail yesterday.... They now want to fit a NEW ENGINE???
I am worried because I feel this will de-value my car? What does everyone else think please? I absolutely love the car and feel it would be a lot of hassle to change (insurance, finance etc) but I am worried that a potential buyer will take one look at the log book and run for it???
Thanks! Scoobie :(
Look on the bright side, you'll be getting an engine with 4-5k less miles on it than the one you have. If it's all dealer stamped I wouldn't worry too much about resale value, just keep checking the oil in the new one ;)

Thanks AndyF to be honest most people have said the same and I feel a little better...:)
I am still going to go for some compensation tho :D
3 year warranty and free servicing for a start....
Does anyone know what the Blue Tooth hands free kit is like from SEAT?
Thanks for your advice :D

You can look on the engine block to see where it was built. Mine is Germany but still using oil.

I would get garage to check it out... someone said to me that if the oil isnt leaking (which it wasnt) and the engine isnt smoking then something isnt right... I was sooooo happy with my car now I am a bit worried I am going to be spending a fortune in oil!!!
Oh still waiting for them to tell me when the engine will be fitted, exactly what the actual problem was and what paperwork I will get to confirm what has happened. I have also asked if I have to notify anyone else (I guess they will notify DVLA of the new engine number)... but not sure what else it may affect.
In the meantime, they have had to exchange my courtesy car today (they said they have sold the one I was driving!) and have given me an Ibiza ST diesel :(
My Cupra drinks oil, I have never owned a car that required as much oil to be added! I expected to have to add some within the first few thousand miles but I was still adding some regularly up to about 15,000. Now I do not need to add as much.
