Engine Warning Light and Engine Shuddering

I was driving somewhere last night that when I noticed that I had an engine warning light (solid not flashing). I cannot detect any difference in the way the car is driving. I did notice that when the engine is idling, it (the engine) and the whole car shudders slightly.

I looked this warning light in the owners manual but it's pretty vague. Does anyone out there know if there is one particular fault that this likely to be or are the possibilities wide ranging? Does anyone know what might cause the engine to shudder while idling?

that sounds like a coilpack failure, exactly the same symptoms when it happened to me in my tt. but if you have a diesel then i dont know
