View Full Version : Low...
Look what me, m0rk and my mate did today...
The car didn't stay that low for long mind, the fronts are now the same height as the rears. On that height, the fronts scrubbed on anything.
To me at the height its at now is still a little too high, but it should drop a bit more when the suspension settles in.

That's LOW!
Bet it looks good in the flesh.
Wouldn't want to drive far like that though, you'd have more trim rattles than Diesel clatter!
I drove it like that and it scraped on every little bump...back I went and we raised it 50mm. It hasn't scrubbed on anything since.
I have pics of it now it's all level, but they're on my camera, which is in my car, and I'm stuck in work without the cable. I'll get some more uploaded later :)

Those TT comps are my favourite OE VAG wheels. Well cool

Cheers dude!
I think they're the best wheels VAG have made as well. Not only are they very nice to look at, they suit my car very well, shine up really well and are so easy to clean!

That does look quite cool!
I think the wheel look a bit too chromy for th colour of the car... i don't know....like others have said, it would look nicer in the flesh I expect.
By the way, how much did you pay for a set of TT wheels like that?? They must have cost a mint!
My boss has just managed to get hold of a set 18" multispoke TT wheels for his A3 and they were a pretty penny!

I'd have to disagree (biased opinion), but whose car was getting more looks today :p :bleh:
looked sweet, shame it rubbed tho :(

Of course it's coming with me...I'll see you there!

I like the chromeness of them, I was thinking of getting them polished to a higher standard! At the moment they're very faded, they're in desperate need for a polish!
I can't remember how much I paid but it was nothing like the £1200-£1600 they cost new!

I agree, your car did get more looks today as it is a pretty looking machine! I just think mine's prettier :p

Thanks Stu! At the moment I'm thinking its a bit too high, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it drops a bit more.
If not, I'm winding the front down more! :D

Tom, that looks great.
How about getting the front arches rolled and trimmed, and slam it down then?
I think it would be well worth it.
Mark :)
Thanks Mark, unfortunately I can't make the sump any higher, so I'm going to leave it as it is I think. I agree it would look fantastic, but I can't be running the risk of wrecking the sump every time I go out in it :(
What bits did you use?
Hacksaw to cut the springs? :roflmao:
KW Variant 1 coilovers, from Banshee Motorsport.
Cheers Tom - does it 'crash' less on shitty roads now?
I'll put up with a stiff ride when I'm hooning down a country lane but when you're trying to granny your folks somewhere and you're bouncing round the road, it's a bit crap.
Also, does the nose still dip (and ABS kick in) if you hit a rough surface when on the brakes?
It's a firm ride, but it's by no means an uncomfortable ride.
You can feel the bumps ever so slightly but the car is so much "tighter" it makes up for it.
My problem with the standard stuff was that it was so wobbly, and that it handled like a duck on a 2 wheeled rollerskate. We found my front shocks were mullered after 8k anyway! The standard stuff really is pathetic!
If we're at a meet or something you're welcome to drive mine to see what you think.
Oh I haven't actually hit the ABS since I've had it done, no doubt I'll give it a go later!
As an example
Last night I was slowing down to be 2nd in the queue at some lights - fairly gental braking. Went over a slightly sunk drain cover... front end dives, felt like the ABS kicks, I don't seem to be slowing any more and it's a brief :-o moment.
How much did the coilovers cost?

chri5b... the standard suspension is cr4p, because whilst its got fairly firm springs, the standard dampers are just not up to it, so you get the crash/boing effect when you go over uneven surfaces.
If you're not after a lowered effect, and just want to improve handling then either the Seatsport suspension kit (made up from eibach springs, and sachs dampers) isn't too bad and is ~£400+vat (parts only). Fitted menas ~2hrs of your dealers times so ~£520+vat ish
or something like the koni/eibach kit which Ross (techie) has on his fabia would be good too. - email sales@amdtechnik.com for current prices I presume...
And if you want to hit ABS/brake fade on the head, then the drilled Brembos I've on my ibiza work really really well. :p
I think Koni do the dampers on their own if you're thinking of just changing the dampers while keeping the standard springs. Under your name it says about scraping the undertray, so I assume it is already lowered.
Chris, mine did that too at times, it was a real pain as the ABS wasn't needed.
Afternoon chaps.
Not lowered at all - tag is from when the front end bottoms out when braking hard. I can repeat the trick at will on one downhill set of traffic lights going home from work.
Must say I've found the brakes to be surprisingly fade resistant - even when blatting round Wales in a convoy of Scoobies and a Leon Cupra :D
I do plan to try to take out a FR TDi just to see if that's any better.
Part of me is loathed to start heavily modding the car - I started to get into that downward spiral with my Scoob...
Looking good Tom, did my advice help any?
The O/S/F strut can be a little bugger cant it.

Yes Ross the advice was fantastic! Thanks a lot dude! :D
We got stuck on that one for hours...it was because the bottom of the shock wouldn't move and nothing would happen. My old Polo jack helped raise the shock and gave it enough room for it to pop out.
The tracking's out as you'd understand...I'll have a word with you about that later on, if you're online ;)
Chris your brakes are fade resistant? Can I have them? Mine are rubbish!
Mits off my brakes :D
Certainly the pedal travel lengthens but they still work. Compare that to the OE set-up on my Scooby which would fade to nothing when pushing on x-country. Caused a few :-o momments.

OMG I thought I was imagining it!! It happens to me quite often actually. Im braking nowhere near the point when ABS normally kicks in and then suddenly the brake pedal vibrates as the ABS kicks in for a moment, but the car doesn't slow faster, it actually just stops braking altogether and Im nearly smacking into the car in front just as it stops vibrating and the car suddenly stops dead. Its really given me a fright a few times, but having just passed my test Ive not really got any experience with cars so just assumed that I was doing something wrong. So its uneven road surfaces that are causing that, how come
Is this a problem that I should take up with Seat? Surely I should not be putting up with that its dangerous!

I've gotten this twice, too. Braking quite hard and a bump causes the ABS to kick in. I thought it was just the fact that the suspension is stiffer and thus wheels get off the ground more easily...
Yeah mine did it as well. Just a shite feature the car has.
It's happened a lot less now the suspension has been changed.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, even as a rookie driver.
I reckon I could reproduce the trait at will, given the right combination of shitty road surface or drain cover.
I have been thinking about starting to make a fuss about it. First stop would be the dealer but I know full well they'll be able to do bugger all but it's the first step before you could hassle Seat UK about it. I would doubt I'd get much out of them but I'd hate to find myself in the back of a car at traffic lights due to a poor suspension set-up and/or over-sensative ABS.
