Hi All

I purchased my 07 Leon FR DSG at the end of may this year from my local Seat dealer, at the time of purchase I asked the Sales guy when the Cam-belt was due as I had been stung with this before when buying a Peugeot 306 GTi-6, he told me it was at 40k and as the car only had 13500 miles on it there was plenty of time before it was due.

I received a card from the dealer last week to say your cam belt is due and that they are doing a special offer for £299, I was surprised and had a look on here and it confirmed that the Cam-belt is due at 40k or 4 years which ever is sooner. I contacted my dealer yesterday afternoon and pointed out that I had been given incorrect or misleading information from the sales guy and would be interested to know what discount could be applied when I book the car in to get the cam-belt and water pump done.

I received the reply this morning to say no discount could be offered as when I purchased the car the cam-belt was not due for 6 months, I think this is more than unreasonable as I had specifically asked the sales Guy when buying the car this information and when spending nearly 11k on a car I do not really expect to pay nearly £600 in the first 6 months of ownership.

Can anyone give me any advice on what to do now, other than take my business elsewhere, is there anyone I can complain to higher than the dealer themselves, or am I being unreasonable with my complaint and should I just suck it up and accept the fact I should have done my homework instead of trusting what the sales guy told me ?

Thanks for listening

Alex

Tbh I would done more home work and got it in writing signed dated abd name of rep that said all this to you, so in some way it's at your own fault, which I'm sorry to say, as I not had this problem before and can understand frustration and annoyance but unfortunately at your own doing, if it was my car I would run it around longer with that minimal mileage for age of car it could easily push another 20+ k mileage change it at the 40k service do the whole hog with it's major service my opinion though,

Cam belt at 40K? Blimey!

My MK3 Cupra is 10 years old, with 62K on it, and I am wondering about doing it, or putting it off till 70k....

40K is seriously low mileage for a cambelt change?!

You're about 4yrs too late Mike - I'd get that changed asap.

Yeah planned before the year is out :)

I only do 20 miles a day, so I'm not pushing it... well, 4yrs too late I guess I might be.

Still, new engine = bigger turbo, right? :)
