View Full Version : Dump Valve for the Turbo
Hello!!
I am interesting to replace the standard Dump Valve. I asked to the local dealer and they told me that they do have an Alloy Forge Valve. The price is about 205 euro. As i noticed in another topic this is a good modification. From the service the told me that is simple. Is something more i sould know about the hole procces?
Thanks in advance!!

Daz,
how much do you charge for the fitting of a Forge Dump Valve as reviewed by Mark ??
Whooshing from turbo sounding very strange indeed, it's almost fluttering in nature - think the DV is on it's way out after 9000 miles !!
Thanks,
Kevin

I have the standard dump valve that came with the car,
It pulses the air out very fast rather than letting it out in a single quiet hiss, could this indicate that it has failed?,
It changed pitch (gradually) after i had done about 15,000 miles and has stayed the same ever since!

Can somebody explain to me about these dump valves (benefits & what they do etc). http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif
My leon cupra has done 1,250 miles and all seems well but, will a new D.V. be a good investment for the future?
(If I'm gonna get one then you can fit it Daz, not me)!

i would firtsly consider myself biased , but basically they improve the smoothness of the car by making it less aggressive between gears , helps keep the power delivery silkier and more useable , not a major change just a refinement really , to be honest ya best asking all those that have had em fitted : SEE BELOW
come on boys , vent ya spleens

Dump valve helps prevent compressor stall which can occur between gear changes on full boost. The main benefit of the Forge alloy one vs the Bosch one is that of reliability and speed. Bosch ones are very unreliable and diaphragm (spelling?) design, and the Forge one is piston and spring design. Diaphragms let go all the time. Forge is fit and forget.
I cannot sya form experience about the before and after, as I had mine fitted form new. Others here have said the power delivery between gears is smoother and pickup is faster.

Me being one of them. My original DV hadn't broken as far as I'm aware. I had the new one fitted at about 2000miles.
The turbo seems to be at full spin when you slam it into the next gear with the new one, there is no/or little lag to speak of when you're nailing it....
However when you want to drive sedately it improves the smoothness of changes. As the great god Flapper has said, it's much more civilised and how the original part should've been made.
Cheers
Andy

Thanks for your help guys!
I sometimes find the car a bit jerky through the gears and I thought it was my style driving. (Couldn't admit that to the wife)
I don't think my D.V. is broken (yet) but, a smoother gear change would make this car alot easier to drive.
Looks like a visit to Amethyst is on the cards.

sorry didn't make it down to Cheltenham Daz,
was staying at my sister's down in Leamington - such a coincidence that valve was failing & that RSD are only 20 mins away down M40.
Spent superb couple of hours with RSD guys, can't praise them highly enough - new forge DV fitted in no time, however when I metioned that I'd been having probs with my Clifford - the alarm bells started ringing !!!!
My fears about messing with electrics were confirmed - power spikes are apparently a problem with sophisticated Audi engine management & Clifford alarms don't help.
So they kindly ran a diagnostic - impressive stuff - and they were right - errors appeared - throttle out of sync it was all explained but way over my head - they took a lot of time to answer my questions - brilliant !!!
Not sure whether it was the fitting of the alarm that caused the errors as hadn't noticed deterioration in throttle response - it has always felt the same.
I felt a change of valve was required as the noise of the whoosh has altered - quite audible from within the car even with the radio on. Maybe it was the fact that the transporter driver had to jump start the 20vt before I had even sat in it !!
Anyway I'd definitely seek advice before messing with the finely balanced management systems.
Anyway eveything reset & away I went - did I get into the right car - unbelievable !!!!
As Mark said ages ago 'Do yourself a favour...'
Just can't describe the difference the valve & ecu reset has made - smooth, fast & eager like you wouldn't believe - perhaps I never really took delivery of a 20vt or perhaps the valve is worth it's weight in gold in performance terms ???
Sorry for rambling but I'm so excited about my 'new' 20vt,
thanks RSD,
Kevin
