View Full Version : Question for Pete
Pete,
I think that I wanna do one good 12" Sub and an amp and was thinking bout the stealth box or having another one built in and the amp built in as well and then have it all capreted the same as the boot?
What do you think?

Not sure if I understand fully. You mean a sub box built in with the amp built into the same box?
If so then I don't think it'll work unless the amp is very small. There isn't that much room front to back in the beeza boot..
Pete
Sorry Pete I did not explain it very well!
Have the Stealth box sitting on one of the Arches and have the Amp sunk and have a false floor, plus the changer mounted as well.
That make sense?

Errr... not really... :p :p
I think you mean that the amp is sunk into the stealth box?
If so, like I said there isn't really enough room for anything but the smallest of amps to do that. I'd say Sub on one side, amp on the other and the false floor..
If I ever get round to making them, hopefuly after Donny at the latest, I was going to do a stealth box style sub enclosure for the drivers side, and an amp build on the drivers side that fits round the CD changer.
Pete
Pete,
Thats exactly what I am talking about mate, sub on one side and amp poss on the other!
lol

Pete

Ok so what are you wanting to spend on the sub and amp and do you want the amp to power just the sub or the front and sub......
Pete
Prolly go for sep amp to power sub and head components?

It's always a good idea to have two separate amps one running the front and another the sub. That way when the bass drops and the internal voltage in the amp drops it doesn't effect the high frequency output as much..
Let me know what you want to spend on the sub and amp and I'll recommend something..
Pete
Pete, though that I would test the water and so went to see a friend of a friend and this is whaty he came up with
1 Sub
1 Amp
Wiring
and a build which would put amp on one arch and sub on the other arch!
And the price £2495!!!!!
Oh dear just a little bit more than I was thinking of :(
Si
BTW Looking at 2 Amps then and 1 x 12" Sub

What sub and amp was he quoting for? I'd expect them to be gold plated and hand delivered by pixies at that price..
I'm assuming a lot of that was for the labour and install because even for the most expensive Genesis bass amp ( Monoblock ) and the top of the range Diamond Audio sub you'd only be looking at £1500. £1k for wireing and install is VERY expensive....
VanillaICE is much cheaper than that... hehehehe

OK here you go....
2 x Genesis Stereo 100 £350 each 95wrms to fronts and 290wrms to sub.
1 x Rockford 12" or JL 12" ~£150
So £850 max gets all three of those. Add £100 for cables misc bits and pieces.
So £950 + install costs.
The only problem is that you will need RCA's for these amps which means you definatley need a proper HU in the dash or you need a "Speaker to RCA" convertor that works without adding any noise.
Pete
Now thats cool Pete.......... I dont even know where this guys was coming from but he scared the shit out of me!
Yours is a lot more realistic at the end of the day.
Bottom line Pete how much we looking at for that?

I'm going to be looking into the problem of decent convertors on Saturday so I'll post any news on that.
To just do the sub and amp you're looking at £500 for the kit, £100 wiring.
And if/when I get round to making them about £170 for the boot build to hold it all and a negotiable price for labour ;) . ( Those are VanillaICE prices obviously you'd pay more elsewhere...)
Then later get another amp £350 ( wiring would already be in for that ) and some nice components, £120 for kennys, to 000' for top notch Diamonds or something..
The only other thing is the HU, but I couldn't say how much that would cost as I've not done one..
So if you went for everything bar the HU and went for the kenny components up front you'd be looking at about £1300 all in.
Hope that helps you...
Pete
Pete,
Thats about where I am looking at to be honest and if it has the flexibility of being worked on further down the line that that would be even better for me.
I will catch you at the track day if you are going or PM me a number that I can contact you on (landline if poss) and I can have a chat with you about it?
If I can do and you recommend any stuff that you would look at I can always see if I can get the kit myself and then you build it?
Many thanks.

Pete, all this talk of boot installs is putting me in the mood to get mine done. I could be interested in getting two of those custom boxes, one for each side of the car.
How much would you charge to make up the 2 boxes?
Icecavern

When I get the time I'm looking at about £170 for subbox( drivers side ), amp rack ( passenger side ) and a false floor. If you wanted a sub box for each side then it might cost a bit more and you would have to move the Seat fit CD changer if fitted...

Pete, I would only be looking for the sub box on one side, and an amp rack for the other.
I wouldnt need the false floor, ive got something special planned for that.

I'll post when I have more details. I should start making them after Doncaster...
MINTY!!! Are you still offering the loan of your motor for the prototype if it's after Donny?

sure am Pete! starting to anoy me now having no boot space, PM me again with the cost and everything and we'll set a defo date.
Cheerzzzz
heres some ideas for the system your planning cuprasi
genesis profile series amplifier
now they do do several of these but the best one is the profile 5
this is a one box five channel amplifier able to power a component kit up front and a sub in the rear all out of one box
they have only just been released not sure on price
for the sub i would undoubtedly go for a jl sub for the money there is nothing on the market like them
either a 12" w0 or the slightly more expensive 12"w3
dont reccomend the rockford products at the moment they have had a lot of trouble with reliability on a lot of there stuff
if you feel you would like to spend even more money try a focal sub but be warned they are not cheap but sound excellant
would also reccomend focal for the front components:devil:
Genesis,
Hello and thanks for the comments that you have made, new to the site? welcome!
What I am mainly after I prices to be honest so that Pete can do me the job as I have already made the decision that if he wants to do it then he can!
Cheers.

hehehehe another VanillaICE Customer.... If it carrys on like this half the club will have my installs... :p :p :p
A profile 2 is about £189 and the profile 4 is about £289.. They have a different look to the normal genesis amps, and are much thinner.. I couldn't find any info on the profile 5..
Pete
the profile 5 is around £449 and comes with an extended warranty when installed by an authorised genesis dealor
if not its just a one year guarentee but dont worry these things dont go wrong in the first place

Genesis.... Go wrong???? hehehehe Never heard of one yet.. One day I will be an authorised installer for them.... ( If I close my eye's really, really hard... :D )
Pete
Pete,
Could you post the type of stuff that you are looking at for me and then I will be able to see what else is around as it that I dont have a clue and all that lol

I did in an earlier post didn't I? I recon you're best going for the Stereo 100 amps if you're willing to spend the cash, they're very good amps.
Let me know if the info in the post before isn't enough and I'll give you some more..
Pete
Pete,
When I get the time I'm looking at about £170 for subbox( drivers side ), amp rack ( passenger side ) and a false floor.
Is this the rounded looking sub box that i have seen pictures of (with the focal sub in)?
I get my cupra on 1 march (if you hadn't noticed) and the first thing i want to do it get the tunes up loud.
In my last car (306) I had a full install with an active crossover to split the channels to the subs. how much hassel would this be in the ibiza? I dont want to blow the standard speakers up and have to replace them stright away.
I have a 2x200W (peak) amp that is bridgable and runs at 2 ohms. I want to run one decent 12" bridged. What is the rating of the focal subs (I want to get yellow if i can) and where can I find them?
Lightning Audio do a yellow one but not that highly rated...
Have a look at this... http://www.cmttrading.com/ shame the cost of P&P would be loads from the states.

That price is just for the box and floor etc, you would have to supply your own sub. The focal one your thinking of is about £330! They do cheaper one's but not in yellow.
THe box will probably be similar to the one you've seen though.
As for the standard speakers... Reports are that they are very crap so you really should replace them. I'd replace them before buying a sub if I was you.
Pete
Wow - thats an expensive sub.
I've just had a good look on the web.... Is yours the 27K or 33K?
I can't justify paying that for a sub though :(
What volume will the box be?
I think I'll use the cheapo sub that I have in the gararge for the time beeing as im broke now that i've got to pay for the cupra.
I'll knock up a box for it and put up with a 'nova boy style' wire everywhere, install for a while and wait for your sales staff to tell be the kit is ready for sale. (put me on the waiting list).

It's not mine it's Zboyds that one.... I think it's a 33k. They are expensive but very very good.. I think the 27k is available for about £230, but it's still a lot of money.
I was going for them but decided on a pair of JL 12w3's instead. There's a pic of my sub box in the Trax2001 gallery..
Not sure on box volume but I think it'll be around 1 to 1.25 cu/ft
which should be OK for most 10's or 12's, but more suited to 12's.
Sales staff? I'll have to get some of those, applications to the usuall address... :D :D :D :D
