just a quick question. what is the power handling of these rods? im looking to achieve in the region of 350-400bhp with my big turbo upgrade. will these be more than capable of handling the torque and power?

james.l
11-02-2012, 17:40
I've got them in my car and going to be getting closer to 500bhp so I would say your fine :)

aaron-gardner
11-02-2012, 18:43
thanks for that james. i didnt see any details about the performance capabilities. i know the intergrated engineering 1s can handle 500bhp so if these can do the same with a complete kit then im happy.

i just want to get everything ready to fit in 1 go. hopefully i dont miss anything out.

Cant speak for the other companies kit but I can speak for ours. So far quite a few vehicles in Romania , Poland & other "eastern european" countries where crazy power is not unheard of are running these components beyond 500bhp...

you wont miss anything out and i think our rep here shows it :D

As of Last week friday we are shipping all rod packages out the same day assuming you want to reuse your rings. if not then we need a day to get the piston rings in.

aaron-gardner
21-02-2012, 19:04
good point. do you think re-using the rings will be ok? or do you think new ones are better and if so whats the cost?

DaNnY_LaD
21-02-2012, 23:02
News rings make for a fresher engine ..its worthy doing it with the rods out quick deglaze and pop everything back in...

You'll have to run the engine back in but it's all worth it

INA

Depends on the mileage really.
Low mileage and block still checks out fine then yes otherwise no.

aaron-gardner

As much as you want.
Calico coated bearings are more of an insurance than anything.

Are these rods rifle drilled?
Define "rifle drilled" as that seems to be a loose term thrown around these days. More of a marketing slang than anything....

Do you mean is the wrist pin bushing oil feed through the centre of the connecting rod? The answer is Yes.

ibizacupra
10-08-2012, 09:01
marketing slang? rifle drilled is what they are referred to for small end, thru rod lube

Only in the VW/Audi world ....
rest of the world calls it forced pin oiling. Oil pressure is forced through the centre of the connecting rod feeding the wrist pin channel allowing wrist pin lubrication.

what i don't understand is why this seems to be a requirement mainly in the VW community as most rod manufactures dont supply forced pin oiling / riffle drilled as standard and many performance production cars such as M3 BWM and the like dont have this forced pin oiling as standard and don't seem to suffer small end rattle issues etc, i have seen an extra notch on the rod to aid in the oil splash. Even Pauter only offer it as an extra. Why do our cars seem more susceptable to lube issues, do we have tighter clearance tolerances around the small end bush maybe that is detrimental to splash lube.

It is no secret that VW runs extremely tight tolerances and high oil pressure. That being said the reason alot of aftermarket companies do not offer it is because it is an expensive & time consuming process.
