Hey guys, first my apologies as this has prob been discussed/asked before but a search didnt bring up anything.

I have a nice Black MY04 Ibiza which I picked up last september. After it was run in I purchased a Dragon Performance TD mod from ebay. I understand how the mod works and what it does, I am jsut curious if other users of everymod versions have noticed the following:

About 3 months after having the car (2 months after the mod went in) the engine management light came on, out came the mod, down to seat it went. They checked it and said it was nothing to worry about, fuel temp sensor prob which cleared itself. Back in went the mod, 3 months go by and the light comes on again. back down to seat, same thing, they say they will replace the Fuel Line Temp Sensor as it has triggered twice. This was done this morning. I havent put the mod back in yet but am curious if this is normal. From how the mod works I can understand it causing the ecu to think there may be a fuel temp prob(??). If this is the case others must have had the same.

If this isnt normal hopefully its resolved now they replace the sensor, if it is I can expect it to reoccur in 3 months after the mod goes in :) If thats the case I may have to bring forward my vag-com purchase so I can clear the fault myself when it occurs.

Any advice please..

I've covered around 25'000km with the mod and have encounted no problems at all. I have a friend who has been driving with his mod for nearly two years with no problems.

Mind you after looking at your box its not the same as mine even though it does more or less the same thing. For sure its nothing to worry about.

Bod: I had this flag up twice in my car.
First time I took the car into the dealer, and they reset the light, and said it was probably due to low fuel pressure and the cold weather (this was december).
2nd time, I called AA out, I knew it wasn't low fuel pressure, as I'd lept >1/2 tank of fuel in the car.
They reset the light, which'd been reading "Control Unit defective", and its not come on since.

Due to the way the tuning boxes work, if the resistance is too low for your car, then it will trigger fault codes in your car.

Seeing as your Ibiza is a MY04, like mine, it could be somehting in the Engine ECU has changed
which makes it more suspectable to generating false alarms.

Try doing 1000 miles without the tuning box, and then 1000 miles with it. If it light comes on after the 1000 miles with a tuning box, then I'd suggest you save up for a Revo remap, like whats on my car. :D
- I see you're in essex - where abouts?
if you wnat come along to the 'cambridge' meet on tuesday (its actually in essex)
see here: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=31491
would be good to get another TDi along, so its not so personal when they call my beast a tractor :P

Its good to hear someone with a similar mod hasnt had problems. Im hoping that now the part is replaced all will be ok but I intend on at least emptying the tank before I put the mod back in. Working nights through til sunday so wont take me long. And suprisingly, the last 2 nights driving in have reminded me that the car is quick without any mod. :)

Either way, its time to start investigating the vag-com to save to many return trips to the dealer if it does indeed reoccur.

cpufreak, when the warranty runs out and I have some no claims on me insurance a remap will be something ill be considering, providing i havent got fed up with the car by then. :) anyway, I live in essex, near basildon, but not *IN* basildon mind. :)

Will keep you guys posted if the light returns, and if anyone else has any input on my problem please let us know. I know a few guys on here also had the dragon performance mod like me..

If you go to low with the resistance in the EVRY mod, it will throw a fault - I read this on tdiclub. Sounds like your box is right on the limit....

Not 100% sure but the limit is 150 ohms isn't it?

Yes, I think I read on TDIClub that 150 ohm is the absolute lowest you should go.

Hmmmm... sounds like we may have a cause.. If so though, well... it aint as if I can return it :) I wonder if any of me local mates has the kit to measure the resistance before I put it back in. Ill have to ask around. Sounds like I need to have a search on tdiclub forums as well, hopefully if it is that ill be able to sort it meself provided I can find the right tools :)

great just fitted mine today and was well chuffed with the results now I read this and start to panic so I go outside and check the resistance on mine and the bloody thing is 150.2ohms so looks like mine is right on the limit so now I am worried cos its quite a trek down to my seat dealer to reset the light (if it comes on) I shall run it and see. If it does cause problems then I will ditch it and try a tuning box.

a tuning box is a 150ohm resistor in a bit of plastic...

contains details of what I discovered when I dismantled mine.

When I had mine fitted (I kept quiet about it as my then insurance company (have changed since), didn't like engine mods), it triggered a fault code every 1000 miles.
Since removing it, I've not had a fault code.
Seeing how the MY03 ibiza's which have them seem fine, where as mine and bod's ibizas which are MY04 ones, had fault codes triggered, I imagine something in the engine has changed slightly (they have a difference ECU code), which is possibly relevant.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow (induction kit with luck) will bring me closer to my goal of >200BHP, although I don't have a dyno to test it with :D

Ealph, is your TDI an MY04 like mine and cpufreaks o do you have a my03? If you have the newer model will be interesting to see if you have the light come on at some point. Since putting the mod in mine I have driven about 3500 miles and during that time the engine check light came on twice. 1st about 1900 after putting it in, the 2nd was last week about 1400 miles later.

I havent put it back in yet but ill do after the weekend when i have some days off work. I will take the box apart ands see if I can figure out what the resistance on it is before I plug it in.

Get yourself on Briskoda and maybe tag along to the AmD RR day in May
(oh.. and get your license for the trackday too) [B)]

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Will be great if you reach the 200bhp mark!

I need to book in to a dyno.

My god, I can feel an improvement though. :D

Rev needle just whips round the clock in 1st, 2nd, 3rd. 4th, 5th, and probably would in 6th, but I don't want to loose my license. :D
