Hi guys,
I've been offered a Ram air max-flow thingy (in ways similar to a dynatwist ??) for a prolonged test period. I don't really like ramair sponge like filters, because of the mega sticky oil that they use...so my question is:

Has anyone had problems with a sponge type filter (especially in regards to the MAF)?

I had an ITG panel, no MAF, I never oiled it or cleaned it in nearly 2 years, and it completely caked the inside of the airbox with black sludge. The oil must have literally dripped off the filter into the box cos when I replaced it the filter itself was dry as a crisp.

why just wash it off,and maybe "lighlty" oil?

I've heard similar stories Ed. That's what worrying me...I can get a new MAF pretty cheap, but I prefer not to have to buy one..

I would say avoid and not just because its not Dynatwist...
Too goopy foam filters... Yuk!

{edit in 2005 to say that overcoated filters of ANY type can allow carryover of the coating onto the MAF. MAF sensors just plain fail from vibration, engine breather system oil and fail very regularly on std paper filtered cars. Foam is not going to be as long lasting as cotton gauze IMHO, but will flow well enough, and the RamAir coatings are a sticky polymer not an oil. The price reflects the product}

Forgot to say, it was a foam filter but the bottom most layer wasn't very spongy, kinda looked and felt plasticy by the end. No damage done tho.

thanks guys... I've never really like foam filters on cars with MAF's, but didn't really have any experience with them. Guess I'll pass on the test.. :)
