View Full Version : Seat Ibiza 1.4 Starting Problems
Hi,
I have a Seat Ibiza 1.4 58 plate and recently it has developed a starting problem. It is not all the time either. The battery is fine and the engine is turning over.
Can someone tell me what I should check first?
Thanks!
It also will not rev over 4000RPM whilst idle, but I don't know if it has a limitor on it when idle.
the rev is limited when on idle to protect the engine. Might be an ecu update for the rough start ups. Check with your local dealer.
Thanks for that. I have booked it in to the Seat dealership where I bought it. It is still in warranty..just! Runs out the end of this week.
Could you explain what you mean? Sorry not really a car person! Would this be covered?
If it is a software update then yes, then again if it is another problem it should still be covered as the car is still within warranty.
Ok thanks very much for your help!
Mine is just out of the dealership garage.
Wouldn't start and it turned out to be a faulty solenoid valve.
Fixed under warranty.
Well I hope it is as straightforward as that.
Was your starting problem intermittent as well?
Nah, just didn't start one morning, hooked it up to my own power pack but it wouldn't start.
Borrowed someone else's and it went ok. Was only sitting unused for 2 days.
May not be same problem for mine then, as the majority of the time it is fine and starts first time. I'll guess i'll have to wait till Friday to see what they say at SEAT.
Sounds similar to this issue I had - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=314053
In short the car is difficult to start in warm conditions, fixed by a software update and replacement n80 valve under warranty. Not all dealers are aware of it though.
Thanks,
Excuse the ignorance, but what is an n80 valve?

No idea! All I know is it fixes the problem :p
well I hope thats what it is. Saying that, since Monday it's been fine!
Yeah I remember mine was very intermittent, could go for weeks without the issue then it would randomly take several attempts to start. Its definitely related to the temperature outside though, warm weather causes it to be hard to start.
Yep think you are right. It's going to Seat on Friday anyway, as the warranty finishes on Saturday as it will be three years old. Once I know what the problem is/was, i'll post it on here. Thanks!

My 1.2 stutters when starting up, only when it is hot.
I left it and hope it would be better after it had been in for its service. but it still happens.
Its never not started or caused me problems, just a bit worrying :-s
Well I took it to Seat this morning and it was an ECU software update. Apparently it is a known fault. Hopefully this will fix it. Didn't have to pay, as it was done under warranty.
Thanks for everyone's comments and help!
