Hi !

Is it normal for the Leon Cupra 2001 model to sound like a Diesel when it starts up. Why does it do that?

It is normal, also some Audi's do it too.

I presume its the starter motor, but maybe someone can shed more light on it for us.

I've seen this mentioned in the Audi forums as well so its not just the SEAT's that do it. For once though, mine doesn't http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Cupraman,

Having TDI related psychic problems http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif ? Just kidding. Personally I like TDI engines. They TDI get faster and faster. tdi sound mp3 (http://home.conceptsfa.nl/~drsedney/TDI1.MP3) For some reason I love it.

Yep, a mate had an Audi TT 225 that did exactly the same. Something to do with the oil pump if I remember correctly??? The Ibiza Cupra doesn't do it, well mine doesn't.

Cheers

I may be wrong as I am no expert on cars but,

Cars with an overhead cam sound noisy when first started up because all the oil has worked it's way back to the bottom of the engine when stood for a length of time, therefore when you first start it up, it takes a while for the oil to get evenly distributed around the engine, so that could be the reason it sounds a little rough.

As I said I'm not that clued up on mechanics so don't all laugh at me!! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

Also know little about cars... but is it the Hydraulic tappets making the noise - only quietening down when filled with oil after a second or so? (see above)

if i stop the engine then start up straight away , makes the same noise, no matter cold or hot, short or long intervals.

A little off-topic, I'll never do it again...

No, only GTIs. In the past I smoked the waterpipe though http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif .

But, you are right, anything to get rid off that clatter. It's like driving a lorry.

On the other hand I really admire the TDI concept. The 1.9 P/D is capable of producing about the same power (185HP/420Nm@2300) as you VT guys. In that case, if that TDI would make max HP at 5500RPM, like the VT does, it would still have about 300Nm@3160. And that's lot more acceleration power than a chipped VT has.

And since I'm forced to drive a TDI, I'll have mine chipped soon, and have lots of fun http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif .

That's a relief. Thanks for all your replies.

I know this is a little of road but, has anyone had any front shock problems, ie leaking at 7.5k.? I bought the car as a demo last week. Have I been proverbally screwed? Answers on a postcard!
