View Full Version : front disc conversion
ive got a 95 1.4 cls with solid front discs and am not to impressed with the stopping power. how easy is it to convert the front discs to vented items and what parts will i need to do it?
Just sell the car when you have saved enough money and buy one of the GTI models - there's absolutely no point playing round and throwing money at a 1.4, when the cash you spend could probably make up the deficit of a car that comes with better brakes, suspension, engine, interior, exterior etc etc etc.
That's just my opinion, though, as the brake swap will be a bit of buggering around and is it worth it?
theres thousands of anwers on this, try the search button up top, been done many many times,

well as much as i would like to do that i cant get insured on a gti and so the 1.4 has to do me for now untill ive built up enough no claims
It can be done but you need to change the hubs and stuff to get the bigger disks and callipers on which is a bit of a faff. If you can get the parts cheap and do it yourself then it would be worth it.
I would do as I did on my 1.4 that Steve ^^^ now owns
Pagid Fast Road Pads, new discs, new fluid (dot5.1) should see change from £60 & will make your braking much better. also alloy wheels will allow more air in & will cool the brakes accordingly - I used to go thru a set of pads inside 4000miles on steelies

I think discs and pads should be all you require to go from 239x12mm solid discs to 239x20mm vented ones. Should be able to retain the calipers, hubs, carriers, etc...
