View Full Version : Awful noise from front right suspension area
Whenever i have full lock (or near enough full) and turning slowly e.g parking, 90 degree turns there is a clunking noise coming from the front right of the car. I can feel through my feet and through the steering wheel.
I was thinking it was maybe strut top mount but cant say for sure. Anyone had the same problem? And how do I sort it

Could be CV joint?

Clunking from the wheels sounds like a CV joint to me. Had this on my old Ibiza FR.
Not sure how much to replace, I sold my car shortly after.

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=13776i had this last year on my ibiza fr and turned out to be front wishbone rear bushes. i upgraded them to the cupra ones and problem sorted.
this is getting worse :( but na im not lowered at all yet.
hmm think they are gettin bought then! heres hoping and i will be back if it doesnt work! lol
so i had the wishbone out and the bush is perfect seemenly. i have the powerflex ones in (cant remeber the name (they're purple)). also the cv joint looked ok as well. any other ideas?
im going to take a stab at the strut top mount next.
i am fitting coilovers soon as saw that replacing the strut top mount at the same time is worth while.

I'd say that the the collars have fell apart on the ARB and the ARB is banging on the consoles.
when you say fell apart... have they broke off or can i simply put them back on?

i have exactly the same problem but its only just started but is getting worse. had an advisory on its last mot which was play in the drop links so got sum puma 1s ordered see if that makes a difference but like you said you can feel it through your feet an only makes it worse having more weight in your car. i thought it might be bushes or cv joints but mine are fine so maybe it is something to do with ARB? am running out of things to look at.

My ARB was worse with two people in the car. One person and it wasn;t too bad, but two was a complete nightmare. Its very easy to check. You can see the collars with a torch without even jacking the car up

Although it may not be this, I had a creaking noise from my right suspension and having checked at the weekend I found that the right spring has snapped where it sits into the seat/mount. Worth a look, and if you're getting coilovers it might be worth changing them ASAP (if it is a broken spring).

mine sounds like it could be the arb where am i looking for the collars? Pics maybe? is it round near my drop links?
i had this on the mrs' tdi sport. turned out to be a broken spring.

Check your arb bushes just checked mine an there knackered an my arb has moved over to the left and is not catching on sum metal an that's wots giving it such a clunking noise. Hopefully yours is the same problem then it won't be too expensive!
Come to think of it i might of had an advisory on the anti roll bar(s) at my last service.
I have coilovers and drop links at the moment just waiting for spring to appear before i get them on. Will be looking for this collar when i get back onshore. A pic maybe would be helpful too? Unless its dead obv to see it!
Cheers for the help :)
Ok so my car is gettin its service at the moment and got a call back about this 'noise'. Anti roll bars are fine. Only thing they could see is the Strut Top Mounts and bearings so im getting them replaced. Here's hoping that it sorts oot this noise, dain ma heed in! lol.
Cost = £200 and something :/
Snapped Spring. Mine's 100% the same and the springs snapped.
hm well I have coilovers sitting in the shed so will find out within the next couple of weekends :)
Fancy selling me your non snapped spring cheap lol?
Hmm na i better not. Knowing my luck i will need the 4 of them again. I do have 4 standard springs off my old polo sitting about? mk4 1.2 53 plate i think

Basically I got under the front of the car and checked every bolt was tight that I could see!

I don't know why I did not respond to this earlier, but if the ARB can move across the car then its the collar(s) problem meaning new ARB and not a ARB mounting bushe issue.

Yeh sorry it was the collars that had snapped off so replaced it with an uprated one
PROBLEMO FIXED!! After getting the strut top bearings and mounts replaced through the service this bloody noise has dissapeared!
At least for now.. lol
Yea.. it has came back to haunt me [:@] after about 50 miles of thinking the noise had dissapeared.
I noticed this post - http://seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=347211
who seems to be in the same place as me. Hopefully after getting my coilovers fitted they will find a problem.
