View Full Version : TBA and throttle
I did an 060 throttle body adaptation today, and then went to the measuring blocks (060 again) to see if it was operating smoothly and it only seems to go to 84.6% throttle?, is this normal does anyone know?,
It came back and said the TBA was completed successfully, i ran it a couple of times and got the same result each time!?

Should be 100% mate everytime!
Any faults in the fault memory?
Ahhh!!, maybe i've found the source of my lack of power!!!,
I do have a reccuring error that says N249 valve, mechanical fault, intermittent, I clear it each time but its back within a few days, Also I had a new N249 fitted by amethyst about a month ago for this same problem, but it hasnt helped it

N249? sorry mate cant remember every single one!:)
Gimmie the fault code and ill look it up tomoz.
Wasn't it N75 they replaced? i thought they had it round the wrong way or summit?
Oh yeah it was the N75!, your right!,
I cleared all the fault codes just in case they were affecting my power in any way and didnt note the fault code, i am driving up to hull and back tomorrow so i'm sure the fault will reoccur, shall i text message you the fault code when i see it?,
Maybe my throttle position sensor is faulty now too??, is there a way to test it?, or is the TBA and block measurement afterwards the test for it?

Yeah TX me the fault code and ill look it up, When i have that ill have the test procedure for it.
Normally you test it with 060 but there is normally a non 1551 check aswell like a Resistance check across the part involved, will look as soon as you get the FC.
PS don't erase the fault codes without writing them down!Makes my life difficult!!! :D
Ok, will note them down!!, Vag-Com has the ability to print all the fault codes before erasing them, so i will do that in the future!, and i will text you tomorrow with the fault code.
I am happy to put a meter across anything that needs it if i know what sort of range i am expecting,
I am eager to get to the bottom of my loss of power problem before the track day!
I do know that i am still getting higher than normal boost (20 psi spike at 2500rpm that slowly drops off to 13 at 6krpm (without my bleed valve that is)

Not wishing to teach anyone how to suck eggs and all that but are you carrying out TBA with a cold engine? It will cause problems if done when engine hot.
Richard APR
It had been sat for 2 hours stopped, so it wasnt reading any heat on the temperature gauge, is that enough?, or should it be done first thing in the morning?

Engines do retain heat for a suprising amount of time so two hours may or may not have been long enough.I would try it with a stone cold engine and then check the percentage reading of full throttle.
Some of our customers have carried out TBA (when installed with our EMCS Module) while the engine is warm and it can cause quite a varied amount of problems. We do give all our customers an instruction book for EMCS and even highlight the "TBA should only be carried out on a cold engine" bit, but some do not read and digest this part. You know who you are.

It also seems strange that you get 2 readings for throttle position in percentage, but as one reading goes up, the other reading goes down!, is this right ??

Sorry mate, but I cannot check on this until I get my Ibiza back next week and can plug in the diagnostics.Should be back on Tuesday.
Maybe someone will beat me to answering this one.
