one of the families cupra fr(yes my mum and dad have one each!) is a bit poorly and I really need some help as my dad is losing his hair as it is!

background:
Leon Cupra FR with circa 60k on the clocks on an 05 plate, has full main dealer service history from new and has led an easy and pampered life..

over the last 7 months it has been in and out the main dealer for an intermittent but reasonably serious fault which has been "fixed" several times yet the fault remains.

The car will go into limp mode when driving at a steady speed, engine management light will come on and not always reset when engine turned off and on.

Most recent scan results are the two faults below:
P1524 Fuel pump relay ground
P1672 cooling fan

I am familiar with the problems of VNT turbos as I have a GTTDI golf and i'm reasonably confident that the fault stems from the first code rather than it masking another issue.

main dealer have replaced the pump relay, they have also resoldered part of a board(not sure where or what though)
they have replaced one of the glow plugs despite there being no codes to suggest these were faulty
their most recent prognosis was that the car needs a new diesel pump at a seriously high premium.
Up until now the dealership were unable to replicate the fault or provide the fault codes to me and it has been in and out at least 5 times now.

since then my dad got a second opinion from a local garage who were able to supply the above codes and have checked the fuel pump relay and believe it is working correctly, they have traced the wiring and apparently can find no faults.

my own research suggests the first code to be the one putting the car into limp mode, but I am not familiar with the Leon and would welcome opinions as to what or where to be checking...

related or not the car has had a replacement front bumper and headlight after a bump about a year ago but the fault has only come to light 6 or 7 months ago

can anyone help me please? I find it hard to believe that a seat trained main dealership are unable to find the fault after now 5 attempts to fix and continue to replace parts indiscriminately.

cheers

paul
