I use BP Ultimate 98RON. Should be better in theory.

Do a search on the forum. A few threads about peoples experiences/opinions.

Where do you get the BP Ultimate 98RON from??

Around here, BP Ultimate is 97RON...and so is Esso SUL, Texaco SUL, Total SUL...

Only ever optimax in my car... but then mine's a 210, and this thread's really for 225's... ... ...

Ooops. Stand corrected. Ultimate is 97RON, even in Sheffield apparently...

If I'd have searched I'd have found....

and

And there was me thinking BP had updated their fuel and increased the RON rating!! Oh well...

You were dreaming that we live all in Greece and get BP Ultimate 100 RON :D

I think any superunleaded will be fine, I have used Texaco and Esso and find the Texaco just as good as BP and Optimax.

The more you modfiy the car the more sensitive to fuesl it can become, Jabba can do a superunleaded re-map and with Revo you can adjust the timing on the SPS module to suit. That said I performance doesn't seem to suffer on my car whichever of the four above I use.

don't use octane booster regularly though as it will not be good for for engine long-term. Trackday use is ok, but not for everyday driving.

whys that garth, checked on this millers is cat safe, only requirement needs to be used as 1 bottle with min 50 litres of fuel just before fill up,for good mix, loads of S3,tt's use this etc,all the scoob boys around here also with jap imports etc for 100 ron,not heard any probs, asked millers tech about this very concern, although they would not say dont buy it ddooohhh

Once or twice I've thrown in £5 of dish water... I mean 95ron to get me to an optimax station, or any other station that sells SUL if I've got stuck...

prolonged use will make your engine run lean and burn your valve seats out.

If it's the standard car running a standard map should be fine on 98/97 or 95 RON, I know the handbook says use superunleaded and I would try and use it but the occassional bit of 95 should be fine. The ECU adapts over about 3 tanks of fuel to the higher octane fuel, it's not instant hence why boys and girls on here like to stick to one type.

Optimax is the fuel of choice for most due to it being 98RON but Optimax has a reputation about degrading faster than other superunleaded's. BP ultimate is a more stable fuel and should be more consistant but it's 97RON.

There are threads that talk about this in lots of scientific detail if you want to do a search

I use optimax if i can but i'll use the bp stuff there isn't a shell garage near. Thing is in scotland all the fuel is from BP grangemouth so it doesn't matter which petrol station you go to you'll still be buying the BP fuel with additives in it(shell optimax)

My 210 LCR is a lease car and I have done nearly 20000 miles now without using super at all( maybe once by mistake!) and it only pinks occasionally in wrong gear at wrong time kind of thing---but still feels very quick--as my thread about R32 play session proves.
Any long term damage coming up?
