Bit of a specific question really. On your Tdi Sport, which is the best gear for acceleration above 80mph? Im running some experiments on my test track and want to know how to achieve best acceleration up towards 120+ So which do you find the best combination. It will pull right up towards the top end in 5th but is hitting 4000 rpm which cant be good for the engine and is at the end of the torque curve... it seems to accelerate less in 6th though as I think this is geared for cruising?? What do you find?

Also, if i had a MAF problem, would this effect high speed acceleration?

Cheers

I feel like it accelerates better in 5th from about 80 to 100 and from then on in 6th gear thats on a race track of course. peak tourqe is long gone at 4000rpm but mine is still putting out 175lbs at that speed but also its putting out 135bhp then aswell with both tailing off rapidly in the next 500rpm.

With the latest remap mine still pulls like a train even in 6th. Quite funny when the turbo really starts spooling up at about 110mph onwards.

TDI's can fool you into thinking that it's more efficient to lug in a higher gear - rarely the case.

Your peak power RPM still indicates the point at which you have the optimal conditions of both available Torque and Gearing. You'll make best progress taking the engine to, or a smidge beyond this rpm.

Apologies if you already understand it, but reading the guide on the main page HERE (http://www.seatcupra.net/guide_powertorque.htm) may help.

I find myself just sticking mine in 6th anyway. That could be one reason why I get shit MPG. If the test track is where I think it is, I use 6th all the way down it from work to my turn off.

I agree wit that Mik, I've watched the MFA between 5th and 6th and found 5th gives better results.

Then again the MFA is as accurate as Stevie Wonder with a tape measure.

;) You most probably do. Thinking about it, and after another try this evening on the track, mine seems to go best by letting it hit 3000rpm in 5th and then wacking it into sixth. Still surprised about the performance though. My MPG seems a bit crap compared to others on the forum too after a quick search. Yet to return a tank over 40mpg...Using ultimate religiously. Probably all the short journeys and town driving... nothing to do with the way I drive the car of course...
