Took the LCR in today to have the tracker sorted and been lent a 53 plate Ibiza TDI - Assume its the 130bhp model as its got a 6 speed box.
I am well impressed in the drivability of this car, it's not slack at all. They have really improved the feel of the car giving it that little but more power. I can see now why people rave about them (the last I drove was the 110 in a Toledo)
Drove back the 28miles from the dealer, got 45mpg - its goes from 80-100 with no problem at all.
You know full well though, if diesel engines take over then the gov will find another way of getting more money of us CC drivers - as the CO2's are lower.

Me thinks you only got 45MPG as you were still driving it like a petrol :bleh:

hehehe they are great aren't they?
driveforward - I'm obviously still "driving like a petrol" - can you tell me what I should do differently?

Generally, people seem to stay in a gear longer than they should do.. remember the main power band is from just below 2000rpm up to about 3500rpm, so by trying to stay within that band during acceleration you'll not only feel increased acceleration, but the fuel savings will also mount up..
I don't drive like a grandad, but NEVER return less than 50MPG even when I've been out really giving it PASTY, as once I'm up to speed, 6th gear is all you need :)
toXXin very much still drive the TDI like it's his old 1.4 16v.. utilising the full rev range, doing this isn't the quickest option and nor the most economical

cheers for that.
The gears are set a lot different to my old 1.4 anyway - for 2nd you need to be going a lot faster than the traffic-jam crawl; 3rd has a great range and incredible power (in comparison to the 1.4); 4th is more comfortable above 35mph (was 25); and 6th...well you can be doing a ton and it feels like 30mph.
If I was in any way technical I could probably explain the above to make a lot more sense!

Had my Ibiza Sport TDi 130 just over a year now and it still impresses me every time I drive it. It's a mollycoddled weekend only vehicle, and come Friday night I really look forward to dumping the company estate for the Seat. Previous cars have been Lotus Elan 130/4, Porsche 924, Escort Mexico, Senator 24v plus several Audi GT's, but this little diesel baby puts such a silly grin on my mug when ever I drive it. 0-80 mph is just such fun !!
Hi there everyone i want some info on the seat ibiza tdi sport 130 im really thinking of getting one in september new reg and all but want some drivers info from those that own one. If you could help that would be great. Current car is an 02 reg clio thats nice but i want somat mena and economical for my trips to uni. thanks

Ian - won't argue about the fuel savings, but this is a popular misconception of TDIs as the engine is strongest in this zone. Torque drops away as you pull higher revs, but not to such an extent that you're better off in a higer ratio.
Your peak power rpm is still dictates optimum acceleration as it describes the point of optimum torque and gearing. You'll therefore get optimum acceleration through the gears by holding the engine in gear til you reach peak bhp rpm.
The guide on the main page HERE (http://www.seatcupra.net/guide_powertorque.htm) gives more info. :)

That's a damn lie, Mr "it can rev up to 5000rpm now the SPT's been done" Walling!
I drive it up to 3500 now and change up. Does feel a bit granny like but it has improved my MPG figure a bit :)

Officially, there's no such thing as a new TDI Sport, as it has been discontinued and replaced with the FR. You may still get one, but it'll probably be in a colour that didn't sell well.
I certainly recommend the car, take one out for yourself and see what you think :)

Ive only drove the 1.4 but i hear so many good things, i did want a mini cooper but id get better economy from the ibiza and it would tan the cooper which is all good. So you recommend... How longyou had yours, is it really as good as everyone makes out for its performance and economy, i will book an appointment soon any way thank you.

Once its been tweaked it'll Tan a Cooper S, and still return about 48-50mpg.
As standard, its a nice car, things which aren't so great:
- Standard suspension - underdamped so it crashes/bounces on uneven surfaces - FR + Cupra have different spring setup, and larger ARBs so might be better. Otherwise SeatSport suspension kit good (eibach springs/sachs dampers).
- Standard Wheels are a biatch to clean. FR + Cupra have different wheels though, so might be better.
Apart from that, its a solid, pretty well built, fun to drive car.
other things (that I've done) to improve it are:
- Revo - www.revotechnik.com - engine remap, taken it from 149bhp (it was putting out ~20bhp more than claimed) to 189bhp - ensures lots more grins.
- Strut brace - improves turn in to corners, stiffens chassis slightly
- Brembo's - not strictly necessary, but improves stopping lots. Cupra will have them as standard.
- Induction kit - I have no figures yet, but seems to improve spool up of turbo, and makes it feel quicker.
- Replacement of headunit - standard one is alright, but nothing to write home about.
Asides from its Sister car, the Fabia vRS, there's nothing abotu to match it in value, performance, and economy.

I accelerate right up to near the red line in my car, although I have a merc maf installed which does seem to make it pull harder after 4K rpm. Before I put the merc maf it used to pull pretty hard up to around 4K before running out of puff. I would have thought changing up at 3.5K would have been too early for optimum acceleration. I also remember reading a bit in Diesel Car mag where that guy Dr Diesel (lol) recomended changing up at around 4.2K for quickest Acceleration in the Ibiza 130

my peak power is at 3800rpm, or was last time I had it on teh dyno.
normally change up at about 4krpm, although since getting the dynatwist, it does pull to a little beyond 5k rpm :D

Hello, another new person here!
I took a TDI Sport 130 for a spin on Thursday, absolutley fantastic motor.
I've always been a fan of previous Ibiza's but thought this one is a bit of a pig to look at but its really grown on me, even more so after that amazing test drive!! :-o I even had the chance to show a lad in a new C2 VTR the power of DERV!! Although the new VTR is pretty pants anyway.
My mates are trying to put me off getting an Ibiza, I'll soon convert them when I take them for a blast in it ;)
I've just got to make the decision of Sport or FR?? Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I'd say FR.
Why?
- Its Cheaper to buy (new anyway).
- Has bigger ARBs, and reworked suspension - might handle better, standard sport suspension too crashy - undamped.
- Has less fiddly wheels - easier to clean
- Front grills look nice.
Downside is it has dodgy door mirrors in silver, but this can be sorted - like Ian did to get body coloured ones on sooty:

FR effectively replacing Sport.
Same engine (in TDi) - "130BHP" (actually usually around 140-150bhp standard)
Different front grills. (FR has honeycomb, Sport has slatted like the 1.2)
Different door mirrors (MY03 Sports had black, MY04 had color coded, FR has silver)
Different Wheels (FR ones are nicer, both 16" 204/45/R16)
probably few things different inside maybe (different seat trims?).
FR has 25% larger ARBs, and different suspension setup, which hopefully suits UK roads better than standard sport suspension.
If not then SeatSport suspension kit is good.
Regardless, recommend you get strut brace (50quid or so extra, improves turn in lots).

It's got 'Metallic' seat trim, sounds strange but they look good and has got a silver dashboard with slightly different dials.
The interior of the black FR i looked at was sweeeet.
Only thing that put me off the FR is the extra insurance group and keeping it at uni, but it's quite subtle to look at so hopefully won't attract too much attention.

Get quotes for both.
best you find there's naff all difference in them.
(its been discussed before, as when ibiza sport came out its security systems were modern, theives didnt know how they worked. 2 years later when they're rating the new ibiza FR, which has same security systems as ibiza sport, which perhaps theives have figured out a little by now, therefore they class it as higher risk or something).
probably worded that badly but hopefully you get the gist.

Yeah me too! Can't wait till I get mine  hopefully in a few weeks. The Nottingham dealer had a Platinum FR in stock and said I could have it in a week, i'm missing some funds at the moment so it can't be done. :thumbd:
I've just done some online insurance quotes with elephant and directline and there is no difference between Sport and FR.

Cool, let me know what sort of deal you get so can argue for one with my local dearler, which is in preston.
