View Full Version : Pagid Brake Pads - Mk2 Cupra 8v
I need to get some Pagid fast road brake pads from GSF for my Cupra 8v.
I know that I need pads the same as the late Mk2 Golf for 256mm discs.
Would anyone know exactly which Pagid pads/part no these are, as I think quite a few of you out there are using these pads.
Cheers
Ryan
PS - my brakes are factory standard apart from grooved discs.
fr 5051 i think, deffinately 16m thick as apposed to the 19mm 16v pads

yup i got a set of 5050's a while back and they were thinner than the 51's but still worked fine.
sorry ,fr5050 are the thinner ones then ryan, always get the 2 mixed up having used them both
FR5050's is what I use on 256mm type calipers ;)
Thanks guys
So is the FR5050 the type of compound like Mintex 1144 or is the exact part no I need to ask for?
Sadly not....
You do need to ask for it by car (and then check the box when you get it)
you were right in your 1st assumption though - 256mm late mk2 Golf GTI 16v
Mark
Thanks everyone
Just been to GSF and got the pads - just hope they are the right ones!
Box says:
Pagid FR5050 (F)
WVA20168
16.3mm
Ibiza 1.8GTi 16v/2.0GTi 93-
Cordoba 1.8GTi 16v/2.0GTi 93-
Corrado 1.8i/2.016v 88-96
Golf MkII 1.8GT16v 88-91
Scirocco 1.8GT16v 91-92
Does that sound right?
"256mm late mk2 Golf GTI 16v
yes.......
Also been trying to find braided brake hoses, ideally just for the front. Spoke to Bill who put me in touch with Autoteknic who can make some up for me after Weds this week as they are out of stock of some bits at the mo.
Other than that Goodridge so some, but dont list SEAT, and are only kits for the whole car. Some are shown as 4 line and some 6 line. Would it be 6 line does anyone think? Thats lists against the Mk2 and Mk3 Golf and come out around £45+ VAT for the set.
Main reason is that the car failed the MOT last week on a hose with a bulge in, so its time to go braided hoses, news pads and new 5.1 fluid (the good Halfords stuff)!! Should make a big difference as the pads are pretty old now as is the fluid (over 2 years) and I boiled it at Combe a while ago - smoke the brakes nicely!! :o)
did i not give you any spare flexi's with the TT? i'm sure you had a front one

Yeah but that's now on the TT.
Ryan - deifnitely 6 line.
ryan speak to stu tunstall,he got me a set for the cordoba, they DO list seat ibiza 16v ,i have them on mine, they will fit yours, you'll just have slighlty longer front ones.45 quid i think i paid for 6 hoses

Who is Stu Tunstall?
Slightly longer, but still ok I take it? Have you fitted them all round on yours? Just thinking if I'm gunna change the fluid it might be worth changing all the hoses, as if I did the back at a later date that would mean losing some/all fluid and be a waste?!
GSF quoted £45 + VAT for Goodridge 6 line, but not sure if that was right fitment as was for a Golf.
Attached is what I've found on the Goodridge website.
Got to be either SSE0200-6 from the SEAT list or SVW0505-6 from the VW list I guess? Any ideas?!
stuart works for euro car parts and is our parts dude on here.top bloke very helpful and we get 10% i think.sorted me some pucker ibiza ones .corrado ones i bought previously were a bad fit, longer will be ok on yours(its only a few mm)they are slighly longer cos of the 280 mm discs on the 16v

jase did you notice any difference...be honest!
not at the bloody moment mate:(
they are slighlty firmer brend, but as flapper will confirm ,one of them had quite a bulge in it,so was a good time to replace, even for standard ones,i don't know how much they are from the stealer, but i was happy with the price stu got them for,and about 20 quid cheaper then the ones i got from halfrauds previously for the ibiza

Brendy, in order of importance...
1) Being able to stop (most important)
2) Being able to go quick
3) Looking pretty (least important)
I know there's some that will disagree, but that's my thoughts on the matter...
mine stops alright, stopped on the drive for a week:(

mine does stop, though after changing to 5.1 (i know 4 is just as good these days) the pedal didnt get any firmer, i thought that id cooked the fluid good and proper from 3 trackdays and 40k miles but it didnt get any better though saying that it does still stop well i thought it would give me a little more.
i think ill try the braided jobbies and 2 litres of good dot4 fluid.
All done now.
Halfords 5.1 fluid. I asked them to flush the entire system, but they still only used 1 bottle - can that be right?
Pagid FR 5050 Pads
Front braided hoses (eventually) Took 2 weeks to get them and had to get them made in the end courtesy of Jabbasport. About £34 for the pair to the door. Pretty good really as the local stealer wanted about £12 + VAT for rubber ones!
Just giving the brakes time to bed in, but feeling better already just waiting to really try them!
Nope - sounds unlikely to have changed 2 lines & properly purged the system using just one 500ml bottle? or even a litre.
you should have done this yourself :) at least a proper job would be done.

Thats what we thought may have been the case. Wanted to do the rear lines but couldn't get them in time, so will do them another time and do the fluid again.
Don't have the ability, tools or facilities to do myself!!

I have the tools & facilties. Fancy a weekend of fun and frolics?!
The same place changed my fluid last year. They used about 3/4 of a 1 litre bottle even though I gave them 2 bottles and said make sure to flush it completely. They were adamant that they had, and said the same to Ryan.

Tools required to bleed brakes on simple brake systems:
* spanner to loosen bleed nipple
* one way valve of some kind a simple one would be a short length of rubber hose with a split in it and one end blocked, other end goes over bleed nipple - get these ready made for about £2. Failing that, "one man bleed kit" (about £5) or if feeling really extravagant, a Gunsons EZ-Bleed (about £15)
* empty pop bottle to catch purged fluid
* possibly something to get seized bleed nipples moving ('cos you really don't want to neck off a bleed nipple leaving half of it in the caliper)
* a friend to pump brake pedal (not required but handy with one man bleed kit, definitely not needed with EZ-Bleed)
Hardly massive outlay is it? certainly far better than forking out £30+ per hour...
