Lads whille inspecting my engine I opened the filter box, where the standard paper filter lives, I noticed oil inside the filter ring but not on the outside. I figure oil must be coming up out of the engine into the filter, is this normal? That means the air comming into the engine has oil in it so the air quality is far from great then. Any ideas? is it cause for concern? When im getting a new one should i lash in a K+N or something?

oil fume from the crankcase gets returned for re-breathing (environmental), hence going into the airbox... If heavy breathing (rings worn out?) the more fume will be produced..

Ok so then the air is dirty reducincing engine efficency? How do I fix this problem? Will it get worse over time?

Doesn't really answer your question but you can use a crankcase filter to stop the oily air going back in.

saint, dont worry about it, itll not be terminal, just give it a clean once in a while, or buy a green cotton induction kit, about 80 sterling (dunno about euros as it will be more even when converted.) it comes with the cone filter clips and oil breather, this means you can remove the breather via a jubilee clip and steep for an hour to get rid of the oil crap and not have to bother removing rest of kit.

theres a couple on here that have used a catch tank to collect it,saves it running all over yer engine, would it make much of a difference to performance removing this?and what about the enviroment?????
