Just wanted to know is it easy to put a 1.6i Ibiza engine in to a 1.4 Ibiza of the same year. Is it a stright swap or does it involve changing of enigne mounts!!. If it does involve things being swopped what is it I need to keep.

I ask this question since I wrote off my ibiza 1.6 GLXi and am looking at a 1.4 3door.

Any help would be great.

Assuming yours is the 1.6 100bhp it has a different subframe to the 1.4, as well as driveshafts, hubs, brakes etc. However the complete subframe/suspension/engine should bolt straight in.

I think the 100BHP also has the same subframe etc as the 2.0 8v and 16v, so it would be the same amount of work to put either of these engines in.

ah ffs so there no point might as well stick with the 1.4 engine. Its a 1.6GLXi they look the same to me but oh well ill still get the car would be nice to put that engine in tho. Any idea on cost for engine swap.

I'm not sure if there was more than one type of 1.6 engine, i.e. there may have been an earlier one that was more similar to the 1.4, I'm sure someone else will know for sure.

The 1.4 is suprisingly nippy, although I haven't driven a 1.6 to compare it with.

1.6 had same rad mounts but needs vertical bars to be cut and moved wider to accomodate bigger rad if its going to be used too.

the 1.6 75 bhp rated engines fitted to the Ibizas cosmetically look no different to that of the 1.0/1.4 engines, the block is the same just with different internals (I think)

should bo no more different one would assume(the mother of all f**k ups)

Now that sounds better to me. The engine is out of my seat ibiza 1.6 GLXi so if that is true I will get the 1.4 and swap the engines round.

erm - not so fast... the gearboxes are different patterns IIRC, so you'll need one of them too. and the subframe & driveshafts

all for erm 0 bhp as most 1.4's knock 70-75 stock
