just a question, but seeing as i havnt got the money to upgrade my brakes, would it be worth while putting vented discs onto standard pads + calipers? cheers :cheers:
Or would they just look better? :thumbup:

You'd probably notice more improvement by changing the pads. Pagid Fast Road pads aren't that much more expensive than OE sh1te and work much better IMHO.

NB - if changing discs, you'd really want to change the pads at the same time anyway...

To do with bedding in. New disc and new pad is of course fine. Old disc new pad might take a while longer to bed in. New disc old pad and it just don't work right, don't ask me why, prob something to do with heat into the disc and the pad already being worn.

just fitted new discs and using old halfway down pads,no obvious problems,i was imformed to do it this way as then you will have at least one part of yer brakes that are bedded in,either yer dics or yer pads,seems logical to me,but i have been known to be wrong

I did it the other way round to you: old discs new pads, but all new on rear. No probs.

It's because pads & discs never wear evenly. New discs with old pads that have been used with scored discs will often result in a new set of scored discs - which isn't good. Using new pads with old scored discs will b*gger the new pads up, but as pads are generally seen as a service item (and are often cheaper than discs), this is seen as less of a hardship. I think at least part of it is that in order to change the discs on most cars, you have to swing the caliper out of the way so you may as well do the pads anyhow while it's all in bits. I have heard it said that if doing things "properly", should really replace discs every time you replace the pads.

New discs/new pads - will take time to bed in;
New discs/old pads - will take time for discs to grind old pads flat or pads to score new discs (i.e. time to bed in)
Old discs/new pads - will take time for discs to get planed flat by new pads or more likely discs to grind new pads to key in with old discs (i.e. time to bed in)

usually i go through 2 sets of pads per set of discs,so to do it properly would cost me far more,the last 2 sets of discs have been grooved and have found they bed in far quicker on new pads,new discs take a bit longer to settle as i take extra care not to warp them.
not saying your methods are wrong G,just i find mine more cost effective,no point throwing away perfectly good discs or pads
