Hi
Just found this site so I thought I'd sign on. I'm still driving my E reg 1.2GL Ibiza almost everyday and I haven't seen another of the same age (or older) yet. A few J and K plates floating around but not much else.
Plus I use it for motorsport. As a member of Sevenoaks & District Motor Club, I use it for Road Rallying, Autotests, Production Car Trials and even the odd Speed Sprint!!
Thinking about having a crack at Autocross this year. Any other MK1 owners out there using or doing similar?

Now that's commitment! Good to see some mk1's being used/abused in such a fine manner. I've road rallied, autotested, soloed and track dayed my mk2. After almost getting stuck in the paddock after a PCT I Clerk'd for a couple of weeks back, I reckon it'd want some skinnier tyres (and loooooooooooooooow pressures) to be successfully PCT'd. A couple of pics of us in action solo-ing away here:

Good to see a fellow competitor out there. So many people seem to think Motorsport begins and ends with circuit racing; when there are in fact plenty of varied, low cost, competitive events all year round to take part in with classes for standard and modified cars.
This pic is me on my way to a class win at the MGOC's Autumn Trial last year.

Fellow competitor - oh yes... There's a few guys on here into a bit of clubby motorsport. I've posted about road rallies in the past and had the usual "ooooooh, that sounds really expensive" comments. Entry fees are being waived on most of my local events lately (other events make good profits so they don't charge for the less popular events), £6 for an OS Landranger, £2 for a romer, couple of pencils robbed from stationary cupboard at work, some batteries for a torch, and the major expense - insurance cover at a somewhat less than whopping £14-ish per event.
Entry fee for the PCT I Clerk'd the other week was £7 - event held on non-damaging terrain, no other equipment required. Affordable motorsport? I should bl00dy well say so!
jeees thats alot of roll you got there, proper pasty attack styleee
Excellent - nowt like a bit of motorsport -

"jeees thats alot of roll you got there"
Doesn't exactly corner likes it's on rails does it? lol
Another pic from the same sprint event last year (North Weald Aerodrome) attached.
Autotest season starts in mid-May - so I'll be sliding it around a field in North Kent on a few summer evenings plus I'll be sprinting at North Weald again in June.
Not many other Seat's out and about on these events Pugs are favourite.

Once did that with my old D reg Mk 1 round a roundabout - took about 50 yards for the suspension to settle down...

Definitely been there!!!
But Hey, there's obviously an opportunity here.... "MK1s Reunited" - Wonder if an idea like that would ever catch on? lol

Hi
I'm also driving my 1988 1.2GL Ibiza everyday too and I think the MK 1 is a nice and fine car for here age .
I dont use it for motorsport , but i live in Romania where the roads is verry bad.It counts? :roflmao:
Recently i am write to Seat Romania -Porsche Romania -official site for technical details about this car, and he dont have details about old cars  .I am also write to official Seat Spain site ant he tell me to wait a response (2 mounths ago)...
Well , i love my car but and i hate the producers.

Spotted an F reg Mk 1 coming out of Brands Hatch recently - still haven't found one older than mine though
Yes ,Andy ,you're the best ! Thinking about reconstruction of my car (i change the engine , the steering , the suspension , rebuild the electrical equipament of the engineBy the way what sparks you use for your engine?)-is not a verry hard thing-, and those in Romania where you dont find almost anything , i say you're the best. Bravissimo!

yea m8 im joinin in on tha owin of a mk1 ibiza lyk got a j reg 5 door glx ibiza :roflmao:
theres a D reg wrecker local - but wont count as it is a right shed and probably not for long
local kid uses one in autograss class 2 if you wanna any tuning tips - he's tried em all and made some new over the last 2 years
good on ya
PS- steering's a bit heavy for throwing em about? you must look like popeye :)
I very nearly bought an E-reg 1.5 glx the other day for sale locally with 46000 miles on the clock. In the end though I bought a 93L 1.7 sportline - what a car! Registered August 2nd 1993 so must be one of the last MkI's about.
I will probably be using it for autotests in the near future - i used to have a citroen ax gt which was very good, but rather flimsy. Hopefully the ibiza can keep up with the 205 gtis! Well, maybe the 1.6's.... :)
i've just got one as my first car....pick it up on thursday!
any idea where to get lowering kit for it?
You're in for a bit of a nightmare if you want to lower it mate. If youve got a low spec model u can get the springs off an sxi or sportline which are a bit lower than standard (they also have an anti-roll bar at the front)
If you want to go lower than that u should be ok with the springs on the front (same as fiat strada btw) but you're on your own with the rear spring. You need to fabricate some spacer blocks to get the wheels further into the arches. Have a look on the mk1 ibiza forum on the s e a t e n t h u s i a s t s .co.uk website for more info.
Good luck!
Jim
The transverse leaf spring is a somewhat 'interesting' design aint it..lol
