View Full Version : Changing my ICE about - yur thoughts
Firstly, I have a 1400 R reg Beeza.
I have 2 x 12" 600W Alpine subs in the boot, which adds significant weight behind the back wheels and effects handling.
I am thinking of selling both subs, and buying just a single 12" sub (possibly 12" 1000W Alpine)
I believe this will improve the handling a lot, and the bass will have more cubic feet to do its business, resulting in a better sound?!?
That's my thinking, wot do others reckon????
(have a Sony Xplod amp, 2x300 / 1x760)
how about a hotpoint ice diamond lobed in da back, it'll keep ya coke cola cold..............;)
if your worried about the handling why not spend the money on a new suspension kit for the car so it handles better instead of
ripping out all your ice system true if you are after pure sound quality then one sub will allways be better than two and personally i think nowadays the subs that are coming out are being shoe horned into far too tiny a box but thats only my opinion if you are after one decent sub there are plenty of other makes on the market which will easily surpass your alpine subs
try jl audio subs they are good sound quality and go pretty loud
other makes are focal and phase linear they dont come cheap
but quality never does
1 sub sounds better than 2? Surely if u slip left and right channels, u get a better sound?!?!
Also, car is being dropped in the near future, but edge is taken off the acceleration, so its not just the handling that needs sorting.
In sum of the pics in the gallery on this site, does anyone else notice the amount of Beeza's which are pointing to the sky, because the boot is so heavily laden??!! Mine is no way as bad as them thank God, but still.
1 sub it is then :D
P.S - genesis, use sum full stops mate! I ran outa breath reading yur post ;)
one sub sounds better than two because your ears are not sensitive enough to place a low frequency speaker. thats why most music is recorded with the low stuff in mono as your cannot pinpoint anything below about 80hz which is where most subwoofers work.
if you use two speakers you run into phaseing problems.

You can minimise any phase problems by having both subs right next to each other( pointing in the same direction etc ), in the same enclosure and running off the same amp channel.
Smithy if you are worried about weight there are other ways to get round this problem. Using birch ply wood instead of MDF and fibreglass will make any install lighter...

I seeeeeeeeee
I think its gonna b a lot less hassle doing a straight swap. Also free up sum boot space with minimum effort
cheers 4 the responses though
even by putting the speakers in the same box and playing through the same amp channel you will get loads of cancellation between the two speakers for pure sound quality you cannot beat one sub in one sealed box
it all depends on what you want if you want better sound quality
then take my advice if you want your system louder then take pete,s advice
its up to you
I think I'll take yur advice mate, get a sealed box with my 12" 1000W Alpine R if all goes well. I know there r other good subs out there, I'll c wot I can find.
Im passed the days of *showing off* with loudness, would prefer the quality now.
Cheers boys
