Would this be a worth while mod to think about getting? my car hasnt had many engine mods, just an induction kit + cat bk stainless exhaust (thats if you can call this an engine mod!).
Ive just recently got a new job - WOO HOO!!! and have finially come into more money! However, i carnt sell me cherised motor as i love the bloody thing BUT i want a turbo! Ok im sure people are thinking - get a MK3 20v t but that would just be too easy wouldnt it! It would be great to see some one try and give me a go only for me to blow them knowing there's a nice BIG turbo slapped under the bonnet [B)]
Anyway, how much will this cost + once done what would the tuning potential be! cheers
+ where on earth does this type of thing? Ive heard there's a lad in my area with a supercharged one! can this be done? thanks

There are kits out there for 2L turbo or supercharger, but the cost of buying and installing them is typically the same as a 1.8T or VR6 transplant.

how much does one of them cost?

Look at some of the amercian sites that sell 2l 16V G60 conversions like bahnbrenner or hunt down a turbo technics kit. have a search on cgti there's a few runners on 16v turbos there.

why not get the head and cams done, and fit some throttleboddies?220bhp might cost ya a couple of grand or more, the engine sounds awesome with these fitted and goes like the clappers.everyone wants a turbo,be more original;)

Stealth could do one for you. Check out this page and find the link for 'turbo'. It reckons 200+bhp. No mention of prices though, so you'd have to ring them.

Stealth was a turbo technics job which is no longer done IIRC.

If you want to do it then try the blokes at DesignaDubs. By the sounds of it they are very good.

If you're going to do a supercharger, don't bother with a G-Lader - low efficiency, low flow, high maintenance. Use something like a screw compressor (See BahnBrenner site) but they're very loud - there's a clip on the BB site.

I'd stick with a turbo but be prepared to spend a small fortune getting it set-up and then always having something break on it or it never quite running perfectly for one reason or another - such is the price of the highly tuned car.

Cheers for all the feed back boys!
ok so i guess setting a turbo up on this car is a bit of a job + when done carnt promose reliability! What about the Cams + Throttle bodies route? How much are we talking for all this to be done and what power output can i expect from this. I guess once this has been done a ECU re-map should be done to get the best out of em all?
Has any1 got this done to their car? all opinions and experiences are welcome here.i dont wanna spend loads for me car to run like a bag of nails! cheers

Half right. It is a turbo technics job that was discontinued. However, the reason it was discontinued was due to the technology not being there to map it correctly. Apparently, now this has been sorted, they are now offering the conversion again.

There is a 16v turbo conversion for £1000 in the classified section on the stealth website if you are still interested in going that route.

http://www.stealthracing.co.uk/

Had a chat with Autotechnik last time I was there, they said around the 2k mark for throttle bodies + ECU.

Plus more for headwork and cams

yep, it will come to a fair sum of cash for everything.

You could 'save' well over a grand if you managed to use stock management and did DIY/bike bodies or bodies made from old carbs, but it will take a fair bit of fiddling to get it right whereas Bill has done all that for u already.

Ive just been on the phone to Stealth Racing about the turbo conversion and they dont do the kit no more and that id have to try someone from the US - even tho they are still advertising the bloody thing on the web :censored:
Anyway, i had a conversation with the bloke on the phone and he said to stay away from cams + throttle bodies if ur using the car on a day to day basis - purely because it will be flat untill high revs making it rats to drive around the streets etc. Is this true
Hellllllllp - im after more power power power!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Depends what type of power delivery you want. If you want useable tractable low down power then a turbo is your best bet. If you are chasing numbers and staying n/a then wild cams and tb/s will do the trick. Look at the various plots of tb/d cars and you can see that there are gains right across the rev range (depending on cams and headwork, and also mapping). I wouldn't rule it out per se but if you understand where they come from and why they were developed then you can see Stealth's view on tb/s. If it's just big power regardless then turbo is possibly the most cost effective way (bar a transplant).
