View Full Version : TDI power, WOW
Hi People as you can see I'm new here.
Changing job so need a diesel but didn't really think much of them until I drove the Ibiza 130 Sport...... EXCELLENT I'm well impressed with it.
(Previous car: 1.7 Puma)
Just got a couple of questions before I buy.
1. My current car has some 8 month old 17" Wheels on it and I really want to keep them, Will they fit straight on a TDI sport ??? Greatly thankfull for any advice on this.
2. I have been reading some of the posts on here about chipping and REVO 'ing   What exactly does Revo stand for. I have been checking out a few sites for re-mapping but is there not one place who does the best deal on this that most people have used ?????
Thank you in advance.

Depends on the wheels. Are your wheels 5 stud, M14 bolts? if so then possibly. If not then I'm afriad not.
revo = www.revotechnik.com they have developed a software remap, which reprograms the ECU of the car via the serial port.
They have dealers all round the UK.
Thank you Kindly sir.
My alloys are a 4 stud :(
Should be picking one up in a couple of weeks.
Thanks again.
welcome aboard.. and good choice on the TDI.. u will never look back :)
cpufreak has covered all your point really, good work :)
Thanks for the Welcome.
I know I can't wait, I can't stop thinking about all that Torque it has, First drive in a diesel it was, Why drive a petrol car ?
It's gonna be re-mapped to something even more fun and hopefully change the front somehow (my only quibble with the car, doesn't look as good as the rest of it) and put some nicer shoes on it.

might be an idea of a cheap (£28quid) way to improve the front of it.
Enjoy :D
Cheers for the FR front link.
Couple of other questions on the REVO.
I may be miss reading this but it states that the SPS1 is £149 plus VAT
But if you click on the Ibiza section is states: £499.
Does this mean that the software will cost you £499 and you need to spend £149 on the switch to be able to revert back to the orginal settings ?
Also there is no specification, I see CPUFREAK has 189Bhp is this standard ?
Sorry about all the questions but I'm new to this.
Cheers.

Yes, if you want to be able to switch between standard + enhanced. then its £499+£149 (PLUS VAT).
You can share an SPS device between friends though.
Power output is going to vary, depending on loads of things (weather, fuel, the drive up to the dyno being just a couple of possibilities). On some days your car will be slightly quicker than others. - its like that as standard too :).
~180BHP+ / 300lbft+ are typical figures, I guess.
Yeah thats about right. The remap will cost £499 then if you want the option of switching it on and off then you need to buy the SPS switch. If you just one it remapped all the time then no need for the SPS.
Revo is not your only option, you can also buy tuning boxes, these simply plug in and increase power by about 30BHP (at a guess) and then unplug them if you want it back to standard. I'd imagine these would be about £400. http://www.zen19051.zen.co.uk

Hello Rodman,
firstly I think Fords are 4x108 PCD fitting and will not fit the Beezer so chuck 'em on ebay and keep your eyes peeled on here for ideas and even second hand 'bargains'.
If you're buying a new Ibiza it will likely be an FR anyway so will have the much improved front end, and if buying a second hand one then follow the link posted by cpufreak (in fact his is one of the best looking TDI Sports about with the subtle but quality stuff fitted to it) or Rage, another member on here has a really good front end on his Beezer, check out the photos on SCNSSC.
As for Revo those prices are plus VAT too and remember there are other tuners out there, I will agree that Revo are one of the very best BUT you are paying the same figure over here in pounds stirling as the yanks are paying in Dollars, and considering the exchange rate we're getting the messy end of the stick over here.

IF you want to go the tuning box route, there are some to be found sometimes on ebay for like £40.... (as per mr driveforward).
with the PD engines, the tuning box is just a resistor in a box with some connectors, takes 5mins to fit (if that), and by feeding more fuel to the engine, results in more power being produced
(from ~140->160bhp, ~250->270lbft)
Some MY04 model PD130 engines seem to be problematic with the tuning boxes fitted, with every 1000 miles the engine warning light coming on - probably because its fueling too much, and its going out of range.
There are other remaps out for the PD130 engines, other than Revo - jabbasport do one, and AMD do one too, but I think there's probably more car's running revo code out there, and speaking from my own experience, its ACE :D
Thanks to all for excellent response, I'm hoping to pick one up this weekend however I have just realised that there is a TDI 130 FR....
Whats the difference between the Sport and the FR
What do I go for.

Welcome to SCN!
Nice to see more people are joining the forces of diesel, but just one thing to note...I bet you'll miss the Puma's handling. My mum used to have a 1998 S plate 1.7 in Melina Blue...lux pack and everything, she really missed the handling of that when she bought her Ibiza, and I missed driving it because it drove very well.

Tom: Get over it, it's a F*rd.. everything with that badge went to pop with the mundano.. just like everything V*uxh*ll did with the fectra
Shut up SDI boy :p
They can still handle well, unlike the 130 as standard!

Leave it Mungo!
Girls, girls calm down.
If your after cheapish 17" wheels have a looka bout on E-BAy and the like for other VAg wheels like mine and Toms. Something like Leon Cupra, Audi TT/S3 look good and keep it on a VAG theme, just need 205/40 17 tyres and probably a touch of lowering ;)
Your right ToXXin. Don't wanna start a war or anything but there are very few cars under £20K that handle and drive as well as a pooma. I am and always will be a great puma lover (the car not the animal) and I will miss it. I have changed jobs and need a diesel to do the mileage in.
The reason I have gone for the Ibiza is the simple fact that it's cheap to buy and run and it goes like stink with so little effort. I was going to buy an RX8 until i got new job so instead I'll spend the spare cash on a Ducati me thinks ;-)
PS. Joined the RX8 forum and the guys there get a combined mpg of about 18-19 :-o
Should make us lot feel better when we pass em on the motorway doing 90mph at 2,000rpm
