Ok folks ive had a big U turn on me plans for me motor and after reading about turbo conversion this, unreliable + EXPENSIVE that.. ive decided to go the n/a engine tuning way, this meaning throttle bodies, cams, head p&p re map etc etc.
right!! here's the questions i need answering.

1, What gains would i get from just throttle bodies?
2, Would it be worth while gettin new cams fitted? Bearing in mind this is going to be a road car so high - top end performance aint on the agenda here! i dont wanna get 200 + BHP at 6000RPM and nothing below!
3,Should i go the whole hog and get the works? i dont care about the price! i want POWER!!!!!!!!

Oh after ive got this done what power are we talking by the way?

do a search mate, been covered in depth recently.

Firstly, you got it back 2 front.

Throttle Bodies (TB's) are thelast mod you should do to the engine, as without a decent cam/head/ecu setup, there will be bugger all gain from them.

Cams, if you want the best circa £600 (read schrick)
you want the rest, circa £300 (Kents etc)

Head, anywhere upto £600 for a basic P&P, TSR and RacePower Motorsport to name but 2.

Remap/ECU, you will need a Lumenition, DTA, Motech etc Fully Mappable ECU to enable your car to be setup to the n'th degree, not required for head and cam but required for TB's.
Remap from Stealth Racing circa £300 OR ECU circa £500 (dont forget to add the cost of the loom into the job too, prolly another £300)

Throttle Bodies, a set of DTH TB's from your man Badger5 (http://www.badger5.co.uk) aka ibizacupra will set you back £2500 from memory.

Dont forget that you got to pay people to fit this stuff, and then your roller time to have it all set-up. and even then it prolly wont be the greatest daily driver.

Stick to head/cams and a remap is my advice.

Have a browse by here>> http://badger-5.com/2001/testimonials.html
Dynoplot on 16v Golf Rally car, running Kent Rally cams and Badger5 full DTH kit. >> http://badger-5.com/2001/images/davie-johnson-dynoplot.JPG

RobT on here also runs the DTH t'bodies matched to his Lumenition ECU. 217bhp when first fitted I think from memory.

Both cars run ported heads, cams, full exhausts etc...

Don't go too wild on cams, as these make for peaky power delivery... headline max numbers are the least significant. Area under the curve is what drags the car about, and flexibility through the rev range etc...

When done it should sound like this>> http://badger-5.com/bin/greenjetta.wmv :D

If you do it properly, you can get better than stock torque even in the bottom end, yet more top end power too. Speaking from experience: Don't put ITB's on a stock internal motor

Cheers boys! what gains are we talking from just head / cams and re map! i want throttle bodies finially but i guess its this option 1st! - where's the best place to get this done by the way? do you do this ibizacupra? - cheers for your input by the way! TOP MAN!
Also what cams would be best for an increase in performance but also make the car ok at lower revs! cheers again!

This has all been discussed before re gains from headwork; cam specs etc; use some search terms such as cams, schrick, headwork, porting etc and youshoudl turn up lots of opinions. Have a look at pumaracing.co.uk ( .com ?); and the TSR and AmD sites for some indicative pricing/specs

It all depends on how you want the power delivery... typically, more aggressive a cam the higher the power delivery and torque delivery... its get peaky.

In order of mods... I would do the following:-

1. Gas flowed cylinder head (port match inlet and exhaust manifolds whilst doing this)
2. Performance cams (somewhere between 260-268-276 duration)
3. Remap to suit (260 cams is retaining OE ecu at this point)
4. Fully mappable ECU with T'bodies & remapping

Also brakes, suspension etc to make the most of this power.... I would do these first.
