View Full Version : Leaking Leon Cupra, Help!
Hi all, i have a Leon Cupra 2001 model,
Water leaks into the car mainly via front driver door, coming in at bottom door seal, creating wet patch on footwell, and a rotten smell.
I have taken the car to my local seat dealer about 4 times now, and it is still leaking.
1st time - cut drainage holes in rubber seal on doors
2nd time - cut more drainage holes in rubber seal on doors
3rd time - sealed metal plate in door frames
4th time - sealed metal plate in door frames even more
i am now getting a little bit worried if it can be fixed, garage said it is a design fault on leons, some do it some dont.
I want some advice on how to fix it?
can i get replacement car or compensation for this kind of fault?(lost time of work etc)
any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry m8 no advice as such as I haven't got the car yet, but just wanted to find out if you bought the car here or imported it.
If imported is the dealership giving you any hassle.
Hope it's sorted out soon.

Hi
I have got a similar problem with my Leon Tdi - it's only happened twice since I've had the car (June). The rotten smell is the first I notice but have yet to track down the source of the smell. Does not seem to coincide with when it rains - will check out the door seals and let you know

mmm may i ask , as it sounds as though you are repairing it ya self ????
there is a modification to the leon doors to stop water hagin around in the sill area , but its not creeping into the car ???
sounds like your leak is a bit more than the seals ???
we have had one do it similar ,i'll ask the techies for any pointers as we had all the carpet and seats stripped out to find it
ill let ya know

I have not touched the car, i am not could with stuff underbonnet, etc and also the car has 60,000 warranty, so i know if i touch it i could affect warranty.

when you open the door of the car, all the water splashes out, you can see where it has creeped on rubber seal and then leaking behind it and down underneath carpet, then water pools at lowest point of front footwell.

the garage have done the mod you are talking about, the garage have been in contact with seat tec to try and cure prob.
any help from your techies, would be helpful.
Most importantly the car shoundn't be leaking in first place, so where do i stand in this type of situation?

My car went in for its first service last Thursday, and my dealer fixed my water leak at the same time.
Like you I had water leaking into the footwell from the front passenger door. Cheshunt Motor Co (my dealer - very good) replaced all four door seals on the car. The new seals are a very different design to the old ones, so I think SEAT have got on the case and remedied the issue. My dealer certainly knew of the problem.
Darren (Flapper) can probably confirm if SEAT have released these new door seals to all dealers or not.

I'm hoping that as my car is also going into Cheshust garages tomorrow to have leak sorted, and that someone else has already been there with a similar problem that they will sort it out quickly. I'm still a bit worried at the amount of water that has entered the car. the whole left side (front and back) are drenched, with the front having 5mm of water after 3 hours of rain yesterday.

I would ask for new carpet - as much water as that will make the car smell for weeks! Not to mention any damage it has done in terms of rot or rust!!!

I have had a similar water problem on my 2001 cupra.
I noticed that the passenger side footwell had alot of water in it after i had been driving on wet roads. (no water was entering when the car was stood still)
The water was identified to be entering via the pollen filter - this has since been rectified and I have had no problems since.

Flapper/Darren,
Did Seat issue a a technical bulletin reference number for the door seal modification?
Cheers

I purchased my TDI in June and only recently noticed that water leaks into the footwells on three out of the four doors( the rear passenger door being the good one).
I have had the car checked out by the dealer who have queried the SEAT Tech line about any known fixes. According to them (SEAT) there is no known fix, they are aware of the problem and are working on it but at the moment can't help.
Has anybody else had the alleged fix (mentioned earlier in this thread) done to their car and if so what was it ie reference number.
Also does anybody know of what your consumer rights are regarding refunds/compensation etc?
nothin on paper officially yet ? :( although pour techies have all been advised on the latest training courses , bear in mind SEAT usually close the door after the horse is long gone to be honest , so to speak , sorry , but they do know about it , and we've found ourselves about the pollen filter one
