View Full Version : Leon Cupra R
http://www.4car.co.uk have a review of the Leon Cupra R up.
"Better cars for the money was basically what they said.
Oh well, Back to work
I think Seat are beginning to establish a reputation of R for Ripoff when it comes to their Cupra Rs.
We all know that the Cupras are a bargin, but the differences between the Ibiza Cupra and the Cupra R would hardly be worth £1000 extra let alone the £5000 they were asking, but did they learn? No! They gome and done the same thing again with the Leon.
They even said that the 210bhp Leon Cupra R only felt a little fast than the standard Cupra... and with a 0-60 of 7.2 seconds it good but not amazing. Other 210bhp (chipped) Seats are getting 0-60 of 6.1 seconds (claimed.).... even the Clio Sport 172 gets a 0-60 in 6.5 seconds (Shown in tests, not Renaults figures).
Ben
Could you possibly post a link to the actual review on 4car cos I can't find it, only the review of the standard Cupra :(
cheers
Chris
just type Leon Cupra r in the search box (top right of the 4car site)
There will be 2 results, choose the one from feb15 2002.

Hmm, I wonder if they really tested its acceleration. We know that the stock Ibiza is supposedly 0-60 in 7.7. Well I pulled a 7.3 in my standard (Forge DV) Ibiza at the track day into the head wind so I bet the 7.2 official figure is a lot less.
Cheers

Not being funny, but the Brunty 0-60 area was DOWNHILL which means the figures don't mean anything. Also the timing gear was totally stuffed. I done 2 runs in which I reached 100mph (Hopin to get a 1/4 mile time) and both times i was told that a 0-60 time hadn't been ecorded as I hadn't reached 60mph!!!! Yeah, right!
I do agree with you though, i bet the acceleration is better than that, but you can't blame the review you have to blame Seat as these are their figures!

Also into a 80mph wind but you can't have everything in this worlds can we.
The reason it didn't record, so i fathomed was you have to come to an absolute stop for it to register your distance travelled and speed achieved over said distance, if you only slowed down then it still thought you were moving so didn't record or didn't record accuratly.
But put that one down to experience though, if we were'nt let down by the person that was meant to run the day, maybe it would of been better, and been setup earlier but due to the freak weather i doubt it would of mattered
Saul did a sterling job coming into help run what was effectively pissing into a hurricane.
At Alconbury a standard Ibiza driven by Alex no mods, did a 7 second 0-60 dead, in near pefect conditions, no wind nice warm temperatures and good grippy surface, in my view 0-60's mean little they are greatly influenced by driving style, the ability of the driver to get the car away from the line in a particular way.
So someone could take the identical car, and let someone else try it and get an entirely different time, things like tyre temps, wind speed all these contribute.
IN my eyes 0-60 means jack. Just a bit of fun and something to yack about down the pub. :)
yes, thanks for those envolved for making the 0-60 area happen despite being let down!
Also, i agree 0-60 runs arn't purely about the car, they are about the car, the conditions, the driver, and which planets are in line on the day, but they are still fun and give a small degree of comparison. I mean, a Evo s always gonna beat a 1.0 Austin Alegro no matter who the driver is (within reason.).
Ben
Indeed, i think what im getting at is as you understand
0-60's are fun, i did them myself both at Brunty and Alconbury, but i take the numbers only as a rough indication, its only a comparison of speed on the day you do it.
Common sense dictates a Metro will get slaughtered by an Evo, it gets better though when you've got cars of a similar ilk, power etc
Then its purely down to the driver skill, and/or the conditions on the day.
Brunty was ruined by the weather, and the inability to have time to understand how the new GPS equipment worked, I hope a future event somewhere we'll have better luck and more fun.
