View Full Version : Leon S 150bhp diesel
Does anyone have any idea when or if this is coming out over here?
Is there gonna be a AWD version??
I don't want to buy a 110 then find out theres a new model looming.....
------------------
I'm glad you asked this ......
Back in Mid-June the story was:-
Golf TDI150 UK release Q4 '01
Leon TDI150 UK release Q2 '02 (2wd only)
By mid august the Golf had been shelved.....TDI130 was the best we would get.
Work colleague tells me one of the current mags tested a Golf 150TDI in Sept issue, and states UK release Q1 '02.
Called SEAT today......"cannot confirm whether Leon 150TDI will come to UK at all".
So bottom line is:-
No one has a flippin clue http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/mad.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif
(Remember Upsolute takes the TDI110 to 143bhp and 215lbs.ft for only $300.)

You mention "Upsolute takes the TDI110 to 143bhp and 215lbs.ft for only $300"
Have you any more details on this ?? It's the first I've heard of this upgrade - I'm presuming its a chip upgrade on the ECU thing ?
Thanks
Tim

Anyone had any experience of Upsolute and the ECU upgrade for the Tdi 110 which Mik refers to ?
Tim
PS I presume it b*ggers your warranty !>

Tim,
Look at www.upsolute.com (http://www.upsolute.com) for details. It is a full chip remap.
For the same price you can take a Golf TDI130 to 163bhp/298lbs.ft, or a Golf/Leon TDI150 to 182bhp/312lbs.ft. I believe "Danny" on this board has (or plans) an Upsolute upgrade to his Leon Cupra TDI150 (lucky sod).
Then look at www.tdiclub.com (http://www.tdiclub.com) under "vw performance upgrades". You'll see that Upsolute are considered "THE" VAG Diesel tuners in Europe and USA.
They are little known in UK at present as there is no UK distributor. You can get upgraded by sending your ECU to Europe....many folks are (understandably) nervous of this. They are however currently now in negotiations with several potential UK distributors.....so watch this space.
I have not used them myself.....my 110 TDi is due to arrive in Holland this week though.....
Note: It would invalidate your warranty....but only if VW find it. Upgrades are invisible to VAG1551 diagnostic equipment ~ they'd have to open your ECU to spot the replacement chip. Upsolute also provide you with a chip with a copy of your existing map.....if you are really paranoid you can pull out your ECU and stick this back in before you take it back to the dealer.
If it all goes "t1ts up" Upsolute will cover you.....they are confident in their products (and also confident that likeliehood of upgrade being detected is extremely low).....again you will see from TDIClub (and Upsolute BBS) that their customer support is excellent.
NOTE: I have nothing to do with Upsolute ~ just think they offer an excellent product in terms of performance and value. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif
Same money takes a 20VT to 212bhp, but most UK folks prefer to take far more expensive route via more "recognised" companies (recognised in the UK that is).

As one of the few Americans here, I suppose I should speak up, seeing as I own a TDI as well :-)
Upsolute is hands down the best TDI tuner out there. They were not even in the USA a year and a half ago, and now have many distributors and an amazing reputation here.
Their chips for the 1.8T engines are starting to become popular as well. My neighbor is planning on Upsoluting his 225hp Audi TT....will let you know how it turns out.
But, do not fear chipping your TDI with Upsolute, even if it means shipping your ECU off. It is worth it for what they sell, especially at that price!

Seat Leon Cupra TDI
Am I the only one who thinks that VAG UK (i.e., the Seat importers as well as for Golfs and Audis) are a bit paranoid about having all these cheap, lovely performance cars as long as they can make more money out of Golfs and the like? It's not like the rest of Europe where, if they do it in one market, it's LHD everywhere, or for that matter, manufacturers' performance upgrades are much cheaper than here? (For instance, to go from an Audi A4 1.8 to the 1.8 T(150) used to cost more in pounds than it did in DM!)

Just got a mail from SEAT confirming that the 150bhp TDi is coming to the UK, although they would not confirm the price, spec or exactly when it was arriving.
Good news though.
It's great news (the bastids) ;)
Still only 2wd version on the cards, but should be a very nice car.
I reckon it will be £1200 - £1500 more expensive than the current 110.
This sounds great. After reading in the news about VW getting this engine in their cars I was wondering if SEAT would get their finger out.
Trouble is....... I want one now!!! I currently own a 1.8SE (didn't want to pay the huge insurance it would cost me to get the 20VT) and is was a close decision between this and the TDI110 -- the diesel being a fine engine indeed with plenty of mid range torque (something lacking in my current car.
Maybe if we have a few people interested we could get a good discount from a dealer and not have to wait to get it imported ??
What does everybody think??
Bad news for Cupra 4 fans....
Dear Mr Burrows
Thank you for your e-mail dated 9th November 2001 regarding your
interest in
the SEAT Leon Cupra 4.
Though SEAT UK has been actively trying to convince SEAT SA to produce
the
Cupra 4 in right hand drive format since its introduction on the
continent,
its production is not taking place purely due to commercial factors and
the
engineering costs associated with re-configuration to right hand drive.
We are contacting Broadspeed to bring this to their notice.
Yours sincerely
