Looking to purchase a fron strut (upper) for my ibiza 2.0 8v 1995, really for looks but will it affect the handleing at all??
is it easy to fit?? does anything under the bonnet need to be removed to fit it?

cheers

helps a little, nothing major just helps turn in a bit.if you have a bonnet switch for your alarm ,this will need relocating slightly turn it through 90 degres and it should clear ok.

yes have lowered it about 40mm on eibach springs, yes i know the dampers won't last too long, i'm a bad boy, so what.

all I needed to know was fitting advice, really don't wanna rip anything off the car, just wanna bolt it on and be able to shut the bonnet as usual.

theres a bloke sellen em on ebay this week, £50 inc p&p sounds ok to me, what do you all think?

I've just received my OMP strut brace .....4 weeks later (I'm in Australia). I'm looking to fit it this weekend. I'll keep you updated! As Jason said the Alarm sensor will need to be relocated. I've offered the brace up, and may need to also adjustment the fitment of the radiator coolant reservoir.

So far things have gone from bad to worse! First the shipment was delayed and took 4 weeks to get over from Italy. I then took it to a professional suspension outlet for fitment. I always knew the bonnet alarm would need to be moved, but didn't know you'd have to relocate both the radiator fulid reservoir, and the Brake fluid reservoir! As good as the brace will look, I'm not about to tamper with my brakes for it! Pluls I was told it was a bolt on product! Not so bolt on after all.........

daz is right, my omp fits ok, a few spare sharp ends of screws need to be cut off ( no big deal as they dont do anything anyway), nothing needs relocated, the sensor can just be rotated where it sits, the brake reservior doesnt need to be moved, it will just be a little akeard to access, ill get you plenty of photos tonight when i get home.

How much do you think a Lower strut would alter the handling.

the upper one listed for a 2.0 8v Ibiza (OMP) will fit, tho the lower one wont as it fouls the sump on a 1.4

I did invert the brace, however that didn't work either! I took it to 2 different suspension places, and both said (and showed me) that the brace rested on the brake reservoir. That wasn't so bad (that is if it didn't cause any brake problems in the future), however the coolant reservoir was inhibiting the brace, so much so that the brace could not make contact with the top of the strut. I viewed EDC's photos, and it appears my coolant reservoir is closer to the firewall (yet still factory???). :(

these things can be relocated if needed, its just a case of finding someone who will do it for you as a lot of mechs dont want to in case of any future unrelated faults being pointed at them.

yeah, gonna have another crack at the whip coz it looks like my bonnet doesnt shut properly. think one side may be higher than the other.

cordobabrendy

packy the bar shouldnt even be flat against the bonnet when shut, there should be some space.

hi ther iv got a 2.0 GTI 16V with a brace it all is well BUT iv rerouted the alarm senser and the water holder is fine, but the brake tank is obstructrd BUT i hardly ever need to change that and if i do i'll just take the strut brace off, the car handles so much better and im well pleased, go to my web page and see. if any other quetions please ask....http://members.cardomain.com/olly16v

cordobabrendy - I'm going to have another crack at it today to get it sorted. I also took the alarm sensor off because it wouldnt fit back on. Does anyone know how/where I can put it back on, and if not is it worth just leaving off?

olly16v - ahhhhhhh now I understand what u have done with the bonnet thingy. You would have had to make the wires longer am I right, because mine only just tightly pulls through.

What is the button thing and is it 100% necessary to have it on?

cordobabrendy
12-06-2004, 13:51
you can rotate the whole assembly so the wire is coming out the other side, ill get a pic of mine though thee rubber boot is getting worn.

Olly20VT
12-06-2004, 17:10
yeah all i did was make the wire longer, i know its a bit of a bodge but it works, i'll replace the whole wire one day.

evil - go for it.

It doesnt do anything, just looks good, and be prepared to saw screws and drill your own holes... in the strut brace and the engine bay.

have to admit its a proper fcuk on, but when it eventually does fit, it does look good!
