View Full Version : Anyone running a CAI on their 110?
CAI (Cold Air Induction)
Seriously thinking about acquiring one of these. Anyone have one on their 110 TDI, especially Mk3 Ibiza.
Shock XE (Am Motorsport) is 'putting the feelers out' on diesel tuning parts.
Would like one with free flowing design & heat shield or filter behind bumper type.
This, coupled with a turbo back exhaust (another thing on the list!!), may see significant improvements.
Your comments welcome.
hmm looks like no-one is then Jon.
I looked into this when i got my beezer and bill can sell u a dynatwist for the 110 beezer, about £180 though.
I saw ur posts on the other thread as well.
Welcome back Stew. How did the wedding go??
went superbly mate.... an amazing day that went too quick. soak up as much as you can in a couple of weeks. The nerves waiting for emma to walk in down the aisle was AMAZING!! and then the speech was pretty daunting as well, got yours sorted?

I've done three quarters of it. Put a few gags in it & mentioned a few soppy bits about Abi  . But overall, tried to make it short.
Like you say, the nerves waiting at the aisle will be a bit extreme!
TBH, I'm looking forward to it. I get to be chauffered there in a Porsche!! :D
yeah, agreed i only finished my speech the day before, then i tweaked it on the day as well, and when i was doing it was all free flow so didnt follow too closely. Its the waiting for your turn to speak... argh!! had to neck some wine ;)
The nerves at the aisle and during the ceremony are extreme and i got told 1 VERY important thing which really helps as i felt myself go a bit odd, and that thing is 'to breath' to took some deep breaths and felt much better, it was odd how with everything going on u forget about breathing..... dont worry might sound silly now, but on the day u will hear my wise words in ur head.
I spent all the time looking forward to it, so many people said 'are u nervous' etc etc but i just kept saying 'nah, im cool, looking forward to it' and i was...... i was cool right up until i was stood at the aisle waiting :)
Best of luck matey.. hope the weather will be good, as we had perfect lovely weather. will be thinking of ya ;)
Cheers for the advice.
I think it's gonna hit me when I'm waiting at the aisle, especially when the Bridal March begins to play!
Anyway, I think we've kinda gone off topic a bit!

I had already mentioned to Mike that I'd be interested in trying/testing one. It would work on the 130 & 150 leon/toledo. Was to do some dyno testing with it.
One point I do know on the 90 & 110 motor, was that after some testing racing dynamics found that a 58-60mm CAI tubing produced more hp than using 80mm tubing (3").
good to here that everything went well Stew....
LOL about going off topic... yeah only slightly! hehe
.. cheers paulo for pulling it back ;) and thanks for the best wishes.

Ah! Interesting. That's more or less the same size as the OE intake. Correct?
Is it correct that the 110 reacts well to a free-flowing turbo back exhaust as well?

All TDI's do. The 90 & 110 seem to like de-cat most, while the PD like the cat but removal of everything else (no rear box).

The best airfilter on the market right now is the BMC-CDA.I would recommand this to everyone that wants another airfilter.
For more details see : http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoCDA.asp
For the 110 it's the SP-05
How do you know it's the best filter around?
I admit they look nice, but don't think your going to gain much + they are very expensive.

How do I know? Because of it's inner design it pushes the air in with high pressure.
BMC is also used in the F1 cars, not exactly the same but the principle does.
Also I know many people who are very pleased with it ;)

On tdi's?
There are a few guys on one of the local forums, that are getting a bit more midrange power, but losing out on top end with them. That why I was asking.

Yes,a couple of them on TDI's and one on a 1.8T.
To be honest,I myself didn't feel that much difference but i certainly didn't have power loss.
have you had it rolling roaded to offically check the result of the filter, with it on and off to compare if u did have any real world improvements?
I think there a couple on the Portuguese forums which I can try and find. The ones I've seen al give +10-20Nm or torque in the midrange, but lose out 3-4Hp top end.
