OK, apologies in advance for a thread that has been well documented already.

I'm confused though.

Doing searches on here (and reading the manual), I thought I would see a " 'xxxx' to next service" indication.

Instead, all I get is a flashing 'service' message for a few seconds with just the ignition on.

Have I been oblivious to previous warnings giving a distance countdown?!?

If that's the case, and the indicator shows 0 miles/km to next service by just flashing 'service', have I jeopardised my warranty?

Guidance/clarification here please.

Go by the milage mate. This subject has been well covered indeed ~ service indicator is a "miles" conversion of the 15000km EU service interval, so it ALWAYS chimes in early (every 9375miles).

Good that they've addressed this in the life of the Leon

Warranty allows a little "over the mark" but not sure how much tbh. Call your dealer.

But if it just says 'Service' then yes you have missed all the warnings, usually the message is 'Service 100miles' etc.

As Mik says go on the milage, mine just says 'service' at the moment because I am right on about 19,940miles. I am sure when it gets serviced next Friday they will be fine about a couple of hundred miles on that...

Thanks for the quick replies Mik (dozy b4stard indeed  ) & Ruddmeister.

Failed to mention my mileage shows 8100 currently, the car being registered on 11th July '03, so the 'service' (with no countdown) indicator seems somewhat premature

This was also dicussed earlier ~ the fact that manufacturers (not dealers) can legally reset the odometer on a new car upto (not sure so don't quote me) something like 3k miles....

Probably not what you want to hear.... but it's the only explanation I can come up with for something like this?

I saw the car delivered, with all its protective strips and wax etc, so I can't see it's been 'doctored' mileage wise......

I said "manufacturer" mate.

They obviously sample some cars as part of Quality Control during the manufacturing process.......

This isn't intended to scare you, but it's a fact.

In the same way that people get brand new cars with overspray on them..... they can legitimately replace panels on a car damaged in the fatory and still offer it for sale as "new".

Sorry mik - I've definitely had my dopey head on lately :(

Well, after speaking to the local dealer, I can confirm that you are totally correct:

1) Yes - I was a muppet and totally missed the countdown to service  :sleepy:

2) The service indicator is just a token guide to the next service - it can be ignored; go by 12 month / 10k miles

Thanks for the replies and apologies for wasting your time........ :hide:

I'm approaching 14000 miles now, and have had the service indicator flashing away since 9000-odd...

...dozy dealer forgot to re-set it in the service!! And dozy me didn't notice!!

Ah well, I'll get them to sort it at the next service!! :D

easy to DIY.

Just a button-press sequence.

You get 1000 mile leaway on service intervals according to the SEAT handbook!
It seems dealers do forget to reset the service indicator.
