View Full Version : Lots of engine oil into inlet, cause?

Hi guys,

I've got a 2003 MK4 1.4 100bhp which was acting up lately (turnover but no start, rough initial idle etc).

Upon first inspection I found that a lot of the oil is gone (from in the middle of the indicator when I refilled 1kkm ago to the bottom of the measurement stick), but no obvious leaks underneath the car.

So I started dismantling the inlet and the following images show the throttle body and the inlet manifold. Now, I might be wrong here, but it seems somewhat excessively dirty. As I'm new here I cannot post the images, but there is a layer of 2-5mm of oiled grease on the TB and about 1 mm on the inlet manifold.

The question now is, what might have caused the engine to throw it's oil in there? Where should I look?

Thanks for any tips!

Cheers,
Dennis

I'm not familiar with this engine but it sounds like breather prob's once had an Astra (old Opel engine) where the breather pipe on the rocker box pushed into the hole rather than a stub- if pushed too far it acted like a dip tube and just sucked the oil out into the inlet best of luck cheers Nic

Thanks for the tip! Could also be it, if at all possible with this engine. At any rate, the car's getting a compression test tomorrow as I'm somewhat fearing to be looking at a non sealing valve on the inlet side.

Well, car went to the dealer. Apparently it was a lot of computer stuff which needed to be reset, a broken sensor, a broken ignition coil, new spark plugs and various other bits-n-pieces.

Did a compression test as well and that came back fine.

All fixed now and indeed the problems have gone :-)
