Hi there, just ordered a new Cupra R 225 and would appreciate any advice on tuning.

First on my list is an ecu chip/upgrade, but which one?

A superchip gives 30 -35bhp increase but is it the best?. What does Revo offer in terms of power gain?. Should i go to Jabba?

Any views appreciated.

hi congrats on the purchase,

revo is what is known as a stealth program ie the dearler wont no by looking at the ecu or plugging it in to a diagnostic machine, revo gets you up to around 270bhp with 275ish f/LB you can also change this with a sps module costs around £700 to do this(550 just for remap)

jabba make thier own programable chips which they physically solder in then set the car up on a rolling road you'll gat 280ish bhp and close to 300f/lb they charge around 500

there is also apr which are done in the same way as revo not as aggresive and slightly less power still very good tho expect to pay £500 ish again

also tell your insurance company,

I had a Superchipped Golf GTi and it was not very good, marginal increase in power I think 20bhp not 30bhp and little increase in torque.

My car was a 210LCR, results and graphs in my sig. after Revo - A signficant increase, what the yanks might call - 'a lot of bang for your buck'. Oh and no decrease in economy with any of the tuners below - no i'm not kidding.

Revo is a generic one size fits all programme, jabba is tailored to your car

Do some searching on these forums as the question has been asked before but you won;t go far wrong with;-

Revo
Jabba
AmD
Apr

Just avoid Pooperchips ;) IMHO

Thanks guys for all your responses.

I think Revo is my choice.

Any outlets near me? I am in Redcar, Cleveland.

I have a superchip in my golf gti (150) running 1.1 boost pressure and I am making 215 bhp and 275lb/ft torque. I have had no problems and have suprised a few cupra's :)

I had a superchip on my Ibiza 20vt. Not to bad to be honest.

Where you from m8, its mid week and i am bored, could do with some golf bashing. Its like taking candy from a baby beating golf 1.8t's. :bleh:

Revo is stealthy
Amd/Jabba custom maps
Apr same as Revo, but slower

Nearest Revo dealer to Redcar is Darlington I think. Good luck...

I live in Dublin Ireland. I have a 1.1 bar programme on my superchip. I was running 200bhp 250 lb/ft, but have yet to dyno it with the new programme. Where you from

Cleveland, they must just have slow Cupra's in Dublin. What made u go superchips and not another tuner, I guess it would help Ukdriver to have as many opinions as possible.

I heard the good things about them. To be honest my car is v/quick and has surprised a few cars including a couple of WRX's. Not as quick as they are made out to be, especially away from the lights :)

Do jabba just solder in a new chip or do they put a socket in the ecu so you can put the original chip or another chip in if required?

Previously and on (some models still) they put a new chip on the board. However they now have the ability to reflash to a blank area of the existing chip via the diagnostics port, model specific so you will need to ask.

I had an '02 Golf Gti 1.8t 150bhp chipped by superchips as per this
http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/vag18t.pdf as the plot says it's 180bhp ish and I was sure this was optimistic.

Your 215/275 must be a special one off then?, or only available outside GB?

Either way I would Love to see the Dyno plots on your car.

My advice is don't touch it until you've had it a few months and done a couple of thousand miles in it. Be absolutely sure everything is tickedy boo before you touch it.

After that just go get REVO'd :D
