View Full Version : Tuning 1.4TDI?
We've just ordered a Skoda Fabia 1.4TDI for Lorna...
What can i do to it ;)
It's a lease car so chipping isn't an option... is there a tuning box for them?
I believe Tunit have a box which will take it up to 90bhp & 167lb/ft.
Should make it a bit more potent!

The cheaper resistor-in-a-box jobbies are suitable for all PD engines I think, can be got very cheap but I doubt whether they'd match the Tunit box for outright performance.
resistor in a box it is then... makes more sense really - i dont want to spend £100's on it for 9months... then loose it when the car gets changed.
I'll have a read throught the threads ;)
£20 ish on ebay for a resistor in a box.... that be the way to go... me thinks...
Sod that... I'm an electronics engineer!! :bleh:

Hehe, my sentiments exactly - you can buy a suitable OE connector & inserts from a dealer (from a VW dealer, but suspect any VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda dealer should help).
The connector that mates to the wiring loom (ie replaces the temp sender) is:
1J0 973 802 - that's all you need for the simplest resistor-across-the-wires mod and is only a few quid.
The connector on the end of the wiring loom (that mates to the temp sender) is:
1J0 973 702 - useful if you want the fuel temp sender to still run in parallel with your resistor.
You'll need to get the inserts separately, don't know the part nos for these but the dealer just looked them up on ETKA for me, they come pre-fitted on wires and just click into the connector.
To experiment first, you can get a resistor, fold the ends of the legs back and push it straight into the connector on the loom - cover with a bit of insulation tape and off you go....
Not sure what resistor values the 1.4 would use, maybe the same for all PD engines - IIRC the 130PD can go down to about 150 ohm (the lower the resistance the more fuelling) before you start getting fault codes & warning lights lit.
I did post a picture of my mod somewhere, think it was under a thread called "Cheap Mod" or something like that...
look at that for service!
I'd best make it look good, then Lorna wont be able to spot it ;)
oh hang on - that woud involve opening the bonnet! :roflmao:

LOL
Actually, I made a big assumption that the 1.4 uses the same fuel temp sender connectors as the 1.9s...would have thought so but might be worth checking first...
If you make an "inline" jobby with OE connectors it'd look very inconspicuous, as long as you cover the bright yellow wire with some black heatshrink
