Hi everyone,
I am taking delivery of my leon 1.6 16v on 1st of march.

I will want to replace the original cassette head unit to a sony mini disc head unit (MDX-M690) as i dont possess any cassettes and dont intend to.

My query is, will i require any additional wiring harnesses or is the one supplied with the minidisc unit suitable? i know i will require a facia plate to have it fit secure.

any help on this subject would be xcellent as i would like to clear this up before picking up the car.

Hi mate:)

I'm picking up my leon cupra on the first of march:D and I'm putting a MDX-C8500R in..

I have looked at the autoleads catalogue and they reccon you need a faceplate, a harness adaptor and an aerial adaptor..

I've tried speaking to there tech dept and the harness adaptor and antenna adaptor are something to do with powering the antenna amplifier! not sure if its nessecary...

Hope this is some help

Not actually sure how the head unit is removed either? Special tool?

The autoleads part nos are...

PC5 -52 VAG Separation filter ISO - ISO
PC2-69-4 VAG Harness adaptor ( 12V antenna)
FP-18-00 Leon Facia

These are available as a fitting kit solution which I suppose means you get them a bit cheaper cos your buying them all..

I only used a faceplate adaptor when i installed my Alpine head unit, i only moved 1 wire in the factory wiring adaptors (cant remember which one unfortunatly) and found the aerial adaptor to not be needed anyway!!

What wos the wire yo had to move?? wasn't flipping switched and constant supply was it?

Mosser

Yeah i think those were the ones!, my head unit kept loosing all its settings when i switched it off!!

Yeah thats a thing thats common across the VAG range..

Sony have gotten round it by putting bullet connectors in the wires on their side of the loom so you can switch um over...

Is your radio reception ok? I guess this box of theres is just an interferance separator or in otherwords a money maker:D

Thanks for replying Matt1e and mosser, my query was more along the lines of the switched power and continous power supply as in what setting i required as they have got the bullet connectors. The new head unit came with an antennae adaptor and a power antennae cable which i believe i wont need.

I visited my local halfords just for an idea and they told me i needed the face plate, wiring harness and the antennae adaptor, probably just trying to rip me off.

what was this special tool that has to be used to remove the original headunit, is it the "U" shape removal tool, or something else you have to buy.

does the speaker connection just click together in the right configuration?

no worries mate:)

from what mosser was saying the only requirement to put the head unit in is to switch over the switched supply and the continuious supply as they are inverted in the leon loom:)

Halfords will have been trying to flog u the lot cos thats wot it says you need in the autoleads catalogue.. So it wos autoleads rippin ya off.. lol:)

The removal tool is not a u shape one.. its basically anything flat from what I understand?

There are a couple of threads I read earlier today that mention putting the flat things into a couple of gaps at the bottom of the head unit and beding them out sideways to release the clips? I guess mr mosser could tell us more.

March 2nd is gunna be ICE day for me:) putting me mini disc head unit in + 10 disc sony changer in the glove box if it will fit and the sony sterring remote on the steering column:D

Hope this helps..

M

PS all I have is the face plate convertor none of the other shite:)

The power supply will be the easiest to sort out by the look off it choice of three different combos, That aerial adapter looks different to the types i have seen before mind you it looks as though it converts it from a conventional large connection to a small connection, the adapter supplied on my sony requires a large connection any way.

do you know where there are any links to how to remove the face so i can find out for my self.

hopefully march 1st should be my ICE day, if everything else goes my way.
thanks for all the help.

i will also see if they have got a facia plate handy for me as well.

I recon the sony tool will work:D new sony units come without keys and just have prongy clips that you bend....

I've used cut up strips of credit card before nip into sainburys and pick up a vodafone topup card and cut a tool out:D

Thats exactly what i have got is a prongy metal clip.:)

I have got an outdated card which i could use instead, i will give them all a try:)

BlackFR

you got the prngy metal clips that stick on the side of the unit all of the time? Then the front bezel clips onto them? or you got the prongy metal clips you poke in holes?

Aber1

I have got the prongy metal clips you poke in the holes, this allows you to remove the headunit from the supplied cage:D
